So by now i am sure everyone has seen the shoot-out about the exhaust systems for the xb's on the American Sport Bike web sight. My choices are the micron or drummer SS. Any help in choosing would be great! | ||

both are great options. The Micron is a full system with hydro-formed pipes that are very different aesthetically from the stock pipe. The Drummer SS is a simple bolt-on, but the workmanship is first rate, and the billet end cap is a thing of beauty. As a bonus Kevin can do some custom mods to your drummer for a true custom muffler, larger outlets, and different internals. With Direct Link tuning similar results are attainable with both exhausts performance wise, as you've already found. | ||

Got the last Buell XB9 race can in the shop. Works great, good sound, and very durable, seems to take a good solid knocking and still in tact. Just wish I had a lil more ground clearance out of it.  | ||

CGocifer, I'd get my mice to a vet if I were you. If they fart as loud as a stock Buell exhaust, they've got some serious problems!  The only thing I DON'T like about the stock muffler is the cheap, rust-prone metal it's made out of. 106,000 miles and counting on the original exhaust system for my Beemer and it's as shiny as the day I bought it. | ||

Have you guys tried ceramic coating the exhaust. This will reduce the radiant heat from it and stop it from corroding. | ||

147db, That's what we refer to as the Race Can. Had one on my XB9R, it's a good muffler, nice tone. Makes good power, but has a hole around 3K to 4K. I switched to the Drummer,it fills that hole.That RPM range is about where I come out of the corner,so I don't have to shift down as much. I don't know if you ever had the stock pipe, but it is very quiet and lacks the power.The stock can only has one outlet.  Charlie | ||

Micron is VERY nice. I love mine and will get another one. Never tried the Drummer, but would like to at least try it. | ||

l've got the Drummer Orig and all the usually performance mods that go with it. l love it! But, you have to wear ear plugs and wear them ALL the way in. The deep base tone will rock you silly.  Everyone really likes the sound. My self included. The extra torque is great. Kevin is a cool guy and great to work with. | ||

I bought a Micron because I had a 9 and the Micron is obviously the best for that displacement, but if I was on a 12 I would go with the Drummer SS. Easy installation, less weight, and there is not a big enough difference in performance to make me want to pay more for the Micron. | ||

I had the Drummer - excellent quality, beautiful sound, everyone loved it, including myself, but I nearly went deaf, even with earplugs. I wish Kevin would make a quieter muffler - I would buy it immediatly. Paul | ||

Jardine is extremely loud, but has a nice deep tone. Definitely not the can you want if you want a nice, polite, civil motorcycle. Not me, I like for cars to hear me coming and flinch as I go by.  | ||

Drummer SS works great on a 12, unless you plan on doing all your riding above 6400 rpm the Micron will just cost you more money. | ||

well i just sprung for the D&D which is... loud. Its awesome. People hear it then look to see what it is, and then look even more confused. It puts the power out right where i use the bike. I cant imagine anything else sounds nearly as cool. | ||

I have the Jardine on mine and while it is loud it does seem to perform well. If I could get a pipe that would flow the volume to perform as well while being as quiet as the stock pipe I would be all over it. If the (first gen ?) RR pipe like I saw at Daytona last year would fit my XB I'd be in LOVE! It flows enough to put 150 hp to the ground while sounding to my ear quieter than the "race pipe" unfortunately it won't fit, but it does show what is possible. With the room we have for a pipe under the bike why can't we get a high performance quiet pipe? I know there is a vocal majority that think "the louder the better!" but there is a market out here for the kind of pipe I'm talking about. Especially with all the bad press and anti-bike sentiment that has been going around. So I keep waiting, and pop in the "quiet module" for longer rides (and take a HP hit) while I wait for the day I can buy the pipe I really want  | ||

I hear conflicting information on how loud the Drummer and Micron are. I'm contemplating a Drummer SS or a Micron system. I want louder than stock, but not so loud that my ears will hurt after riding nor do I want to piss of the neighbors. I'm guessing neither are louder than a Harley with straight pipes. | ||

No but they are louder then a Fatboy Harley with after market exhaust. I had mine parked next to a co-workers FatBoy and mine was louder idling in the parking lot. It was a deeper hard thumping idle. Oh and I do 2-3 hour rides with no ear plugs no problem, just about every day. It all depends on what you think is annoying verses music to your ears. Then again maybe its all that heavy metal music I listen to. (Message edited by xbswede on May 13, 2007) | ||

Are you talking about the Drummer SS, the Micron, or both? It just seems hard to believe that either of them would be louder than Harleys with aftermarket exhaust. Harley's basically have straight pipes with mufflers or baffles whereas the Buell has a pretty sizeable muffler! I'm not disagreeing with you or doubting your experience, I'm just confused by it. And if the Buell is louder at idle I assume it's much louder at the redline. I do not want exhaust that is too loud! | ||

Drummer SS on a 12 has a deeper Thump then my co-workers Harley and he was surprised. Not sure about Red line or cruising. I have never rode with him. A Micron on a XB9 is also louder then the Drummer SS on the 12. I did a side by side comparison with a friends bike. Another buddy on a 12 started using earplugs right after his first test run with his new drummer. For me it's fine. I enjoy the thumping beat. If loud is a concern I would stick with Stock. | ||

Yeah they maybe louder with wimpy baffled new style baffles. I have the Drummer SS and have a bar that unfortunatly have many many HD's outside of it at all times and my bike isn't louder then really any off them at idle or other wise. My D&D wasn't even louder then 3/4 of the HD pipes. Ya ever hear a Ducati with some sweet pipes?? That would be more inline of the type of sound.... its as close as its gonna get to it anyhow. But no the SS isn't really loud at all.Want loud?? Force pipes are loud | ||
