I was using the stock rotor for the front brake on my 99 X1. I don't know what pads were on it...they were there when I bought the bike. Everything seemed fine to me...I never had any issues with it. When it came time to change out the brake pads, I decided to ditch the stock rotor due to excessive rattling (and I thought it was ugly). I bought the Ferodo rotor and Lyndall Gold pads. I have several questions: 1.) When I was cleaning the pistons I noticed that the pistons on the left side moved fluidly, but the right side pistons didn't move. After holding the left pistons down while I pumped the lever the right pistons finally moved (it took a lot of pumping). I'm pretty sure that's not normal. Shouldn't the pistons on both sides move the same distance at the same time with same amount of effort? 2.) Once everything was assembled I noticed that the front wheel has excessive drag, as in, it won't spin on it's own it has to be pushed to turn. I know that some brake drag is normal but this seems like too much drag. Is that normal with new pads? 3.) I bought a rebuild kit for the front caliper, but the service manual says to remove the old pistons with a piston puller tool. Is there another way to remove them without a special tool? 1.) Yes 2.) Yes, enough to make the grinding noise, but not so much that requires excessive force on the tire. 3.) Needle nose? | ||
