Hey peeps,

I got a new scg a month or so back - I love it but the bumpy roads are really pissing me off lately.
Any ideas on how to make the suspension more comfy ?
Im starting to think I shoulda stuck with the 12s for the extra travel but I love the low seat position. I guess i need adjust somehow. I previously had a city X which was too high but took the bumps nicely. So how can I get better suspension setup - and if im bold - what would be the cost of getting 12s forks to replace the 12scg forks - is this a crazy thought ?

personally i would consider a softer seat first. Since its prolly your butt that is taking the beating, the seat being more ... cushy would prolly solve it and would be loads cheaper

Almost seem's like you aren't happy no matter what the bike is like. Just a observation.

I think part of the reason the CityX takes the bumps nicely is that the seat is made of so much foam. It's like an extra shock absorber.

When I ride with the stock CityX seat the roads seem smoother, the seat cooler, and the ground so far from the ends of my stubby legs. When I ride with the Low seat, the roads are harsher, the seat HOT, and I can almost flat foot the bike.

It'd probably be cheaper to try another seat than replacing suspension components. You could try getting a CityX, stock S, Streetfighter or Select seat and putting it on the Scg. You'd end up somewhere between the low Scg and the high CityX seat height and have some padding to soften the ride

believe me im happy !
I love this bike ! Its still new & I want to perfect the suspension thats all. I noticed some others on this board mentioned changing the forks but thats overkill - I just thought I'd mention it as a last resort if that was viable.
Honestly I love the grunt & the riding position suits my 5ft 7" frame nicely. Just the suspention setup needs a lil perfecting thats all.
I think buells are great machines - which is why I brought another one after my 9sx - I could've easily opted for any other make such as Japs or Ducs but my gut is buell.

Set your suspension up for your weight. See how you like it. And yes, there's a lot more comfortable seats out there than the Scg stocker. I run a Corbin on my Scg and love it.

you can try to soften the rear compression, it should soak up the bumps a bit better.

The springs need to break in.
The springs on the Scg are stiffer than the standard springs to compensate for the reduced travel.
Mine was was pretty stiff for the first couple of thousand miles.

A thicker seat definitely helps. The Select seat will add about an inch of height to the Scg but will still be an inch shorter than a stock CityX.

Then of course there's the task of figuring out which damping & preload settings work best for your riding style.
That requires a lot of trial & error. I suggest making a log of your settings so you can back track in your search for the magic spot.

The Scg will never soak up big bumps as well as the standard suspension but it doesn't suck either : )
In the two years that I've had mine, I've only thought about swapping suspensions twice. Both times were on this one nasty, pot holed, alligatored, buckled asphalt/concrete hybrid road that I commute on.
Every where else I love my lowered S : )

I just tried a new seat on my Scg and it made a big difference. The Buell select seat is nice! (Thx Ray for letting me try yours out!) : )

But try a different seat.

I'm not convinced that the factory recommended specs are the best for the low/cg suspension.

I set mine to "spec" and it beat the livin' hell outa' me. I left the preload alone, but softened everything else up about 1/8 of a turn. Much, much better after that, and playing with it a bit more made it even better.

If you haven’t already, check out the FAQ's at Buell's site and search for suspension settings.

This link should get you to the page that has the SCG’s settings:
http://www.buell.com/om/99474-06Y_en/file-5.asp#hd topic000111
(You may need to paste the link into your browser)

The "how to suspension settings" page has two charts one for the SCG and one for the standard suspension, just scroll down the bottom of the page and you will find them. Hope this helps.
