I guess today was my day to visit the pavement.
All I can say is it happened so fast I didn't even have time to say OH $HIT!! I came to a stop at a red light. It turned green. I began to roll on the throttle and start to turn, and the next thing I know I am picking myself and bike up off the road. The 2 guys behind me jumped out their cars to help me. We got to looking around and the intersection was covered with fuel or oil or some slicker than snot substance. I am just glad the light wasn't green when I got off of the freeway or I would have ate the guardrail. The Uly took it in stride. Left mirror is toast and now the bag has a story to tell. My knee thinks the whole thing sucked!! Thank god I had proper riding gear on!! |

glad you came through as well as you did! Good gear can be the difference between needing a coroner and needing a band-aid. |

I was headed south bound on 71 and got off at the 665 exit. FYI... to the east of 71 is the FedEx distribution point (the direction I was traveling) and the city dump is to the west. So your guess is as good as mine when it comes to the crap on the road. I stopped at the Fire Department to let them know what had happened and why. The said they would put some "kitty litter" down to soak up the mess. They hadn't made it yet when I went back about 30 min. later. |

Yep familiar with that exit. Lots of heavy trucks in that area.....You could have even slipped on stuff coming out of one of the garbage trucks. Heal up and I hope you don't get too stiff over night. |

Your Scorpion helmet looks like Carlos' did. It gave him the excuse to get the transition face shield. BTW, he really likes it. Those bags make great frame pucks/sliders. They have saved our Uly more than once. Check out Eurotechmotorsports.com for bag parts. Glad you had your gear on. |

sorry to hear that wolf, been there to, the only thing is i was on the 83, went down to the after market shop to have it checked out on break in after the rebuild but the guy wasn't around to check it out so i started home and here comes the rain. i decided to take the back way and get off the main drag, well i slowly come up on the stop sign and without warning the bike slides right out from under me. it was probably a good thing cause i wouldn't have found out that they didn't do a good job putting the bike back together again. as far as the knee goes, consider yourself lucky, rotzaruk was in surgery for over 3 hrs today from his little adventure two weeks ago. stopped into see him and he was a good bit out of it. but it seems like they took care of more than originally planned so maybe it's a good sign for him. |

Glad to see that you are alright man. hope your knee and the bike heals quick. going down sucks real bad but at least you got your first (and last, nock on wood) time out of the way with that little of damage. I went down about a year ago and it totaly sucks, I was lucky and unlucky enough to be on a friends bike and not mine. I will never live that one down. |

Ouch, my knee looked just like that (minus the hair) trying to avoid riding onto one of those cement wall barriers. It did tend to turn my foot around in the opposite direction. I was lucky I kept it upright but my hip sure paid for it for a while. Glad you're OK and hope ya heal fast. |

I think my pride took the most damage but I have a good story to tell now!! I will be able to use this as an example for my students when I teach MSF/Riders Edge. The kicker is, I just got off of a friends RocketIII. I would hate myself if I dusted his bike. Remember the scene in Slap Shot when the guy was hitting the bus with a sledge hammer. "I'm making it look MEAN!!" I'm just going to leave the scars on the Uly "It looks MEAN!!" |

I know the feeling all too well. Glad you came out of it pretty much unscathed. For the record. I've been down 3 times! Once on the street bike. Twice on the race bike. |

Glad your ok, well except for being a little scuffed up. I almost hit a herd of deer on the way into work on Friday. Even when you know where they are they can surprise you. |

Reminds of my get off except it was a hot, slick manhole cover that got me. I learned a lot from that incident. |

I think my pride took the most damage Heck, at least you were not stuck on the side of a mountain for the rest of the motorcycling world to see. I just had to laugh at it. I did not even have slippery fluids on the road to console myself with. I was not going to fast, just good ole Cranial Gas. Don't sweat the small stuff. I'm just going to leave the scars on the Uly "It looks MEAN!!" Then I guess mine looks like a prize fighter whose mother you cussed out for cutting you off. Be glad you walked away, that is what is important. Like you said, there are two types of riders, those that have, and those that will. |

Wolf- What kind of pants were you wearing? |

What kind of pants were you wearing? Ditto? I was wearing Tour Master Riding Pants with hard knee armor and thick Cordura panels. It saved my left knee for sure. My boots had steel toes and the leather was pealed back and exposed the steel but my foot was fine. The side of my lower leg was sore for a week or so where the padding stopped on the knee. I am sure I would have been hurt without the pants. Hitting the ground at 30mphs is still quite a hit for old bones. |

Wolf, Glad you're not hurt (physically.) I hope this isn't a thread for coming clean on how many times we've wadded one up. That has the potential to be embarrassing G2 |

The bummer is I didn't have my riding pants on. Just jeans, riding boots, leather coat, gloves and helmet. I am looking for something I can teach in that has armor and still breathes well. Any suggestions??? |

how much armor? I have some joe rocket mesh pants that have ce knee pads and open cell hip pads. It doesn't get much more breathable than that. They make a version out of ballistic nylon as well. |

Well,i didn't exactly "go down" today. But that little dirt biking excursion with my '99 X1 scuffed the underside of my stock muffler..Does anyone have an old bone stock muffler can still hanging around for said X1?? |

Mark, I hate that exit with the Fed Ex, dump, fire dept, etc. I rarely take 71 to 665 (to avoid the ramp), I take Norton Rd. (?) south through Alton township, then east on 665 there. There's a couple of twisty sections, but lots of houses. My buddy Kevin owns the coffee shop behind the fire dept. and has a Monster. |

I go through a period of depression and angst with every asphalt encounter. It sounds like you skipped all that. That's a good thing. |

way to go, wolf!! I go through a period of depression and angst with every asphalt encounter. It sounds like you skipped all that. That's a good thing. i don't do that anymore. my new philosophy is this: if you flip it, do another wheelie. |

I waited a day before I pulled another wheelie. By Sunday afternoon I was back to my old self. |

I second the Joe Rocket Mesh pants. Very good on a hot North Carolina Summer day. Uly luggage makes the best frame sliders! Both my bags look "mean," and I have no plans to swap them out. I bet my bags can beat up your bags! |

Well, I know your bags at least have mine beat for most distance traveled through the air. |

Wolf - Best medicine is to go for a ride! Good call on gettin' back out there. My dad use to tell me "There are 2 kinds of riders, those who have crashed, and those who will". Like me, you can move your self into the later category. I've been down twice, once on the Harley, once on the Buell. At least the Buell was cheaper to fix! Good to hear you are ok! |

Wolf - Best medicine is to go for a ride! I agree. It was great after my mishap to be able to jump on another bike and get the bugs out. I really wanted to get back up and ride the same day, but I was at the mercy of the tow truck and there was not much there. Now I had to wait four weeks for the Insurance company to get off the pot and now the wait for the parts so I can get the Uly back on the road. The M2 has been great, but I really need to tear it down and replace a few gaskets. The bike has been solid but fluid retention has never been its strong suit. The 1000 miles or so I have ridden the M2 make me want to get it right, so after I get the Uly back on the road, the M2 is getting the gasket treatment. (Message edited by M2nc on May 08, 2007) |
