with so many performance products out there i'm getting a bit confused as to whats the best in terms of delivering best power increase for the $$$$ here's my current list of things i want to get this year - dont worry its short (lol) but any comments u have pls let me know if there are better versions available or if there is something obvious i should add to list? I'm hoping that the air box / exhaust / efi mods will work together to make best power output. thanks http://www.britnett-carver.co.uk/trojanhorse/prods /277.html http://www.britnett-carver.co.uk/trojanhorse/prods /16.html http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ewItem&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item= 4620416273&rd=1,1 http://www.britnett-carver.co.uk/trojanhorse/prods /151.html (Message edited by 12rrrrrr on April 26, 2007) |

Of the lot, I would only consider the last one, and only if the price were US dollars to my door. |

Pssst. I made my own open airbox by cutting around the top ring and getting 2 stainless steel threaded bolts with wingnuts. Then all you have to do is drill 2 holes in the lower and upper airbox to run your bolts through. Rubber washer at the top and rubber grommets at the bottom aid the sealing. >5$. On the exhaust side. That is completely based on personal taste. The micron is an outstanding performer. |

cool and thanks for the feedback!! seems that the DIY open airbox and micron exhaust come highly recommended on this and other threads i searched through on the website... surely i will need some sort of remapping for the ecm? heard the race ecm will suffice but better results from some software u download onto the standard ecm? has anyone got this and do u need in depth knowledge and special skills / equipment to use it? its just me and a tool box at the moment.... |

Direct link is great, but to get it right it will require some dyno tuning time. I also did a do-it yourself open airbox and posted pics of it. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?tpc=32777&post=617419 |

Best performance for the money? That's easy... A track day!!! No other performance mod can come close to what you get out of a track day. |

I'm still debating the open airbox. I don't have the $$$ to add a race ecm or anything like that. Is it worth it to open up the airbox without an aftermarket pipe? Can you open up the airbox with stock pipe and not have to remap the ecm? To add to this, I still have the stock paper filter, I'm thinking about going to a K&N, but again, remap ecm? |

Best way to make the bike faster is to make the rider faster: http://www.superbikeschool.com/ |

If you have the money, I have heard nothing but good about the Micron - 2 guys I pit with have them and swear by them. The Scotts filter is kinda handy but I ended up taking mine off and just use K&N. I just got lazy. I'm really intrigued by the Remus controller... if I had to do it all over again (racebike) - I'd look really seriously at the Remus. Email Matt to see how it's working for them. At least they can work with you on your setup. I'd fool with the intake mainly to get a good filter on her - do your own box mods. Seriously though, Matt seems to be such a straight-shooter, I'd send him an email. ...but I am also on the crusade here... spend time setting up the suspension and handling - a few track days and properly setup suspension will make you much "faster" than horsepower. Here in the US - it's Penske or Ohlins on the rear and Traxxion AK-20 cartridges and proper springs on front. |

12rrrrrr - That's kind of what I was asking, not sure how far I can go before I gotta remap. Is that the deal? Only if you change the exhaust? |

The best way would be to do the exhaust, Direct Link, and open airbox at the same time. The race ECM will do the trick, but you will still be lean. |

a little off topic - but do you guys in the US have the road or race classification on exhausts that we have in UK or can you have either and still ride legal? |

In most states the aftermarket exhausts are legal, up to a point. (?) db limit set by state. As long as you don't live in Kalifornia it is very rare to get pulled over for excessive exhaust noise. (Message edited by diablobrian on May 06, 2007) |

12rrrrrrr ,if the "straight pipe" buttheads here (U S A ) keep pissing people off, i'm afraid we will be regulated like ya'll soon . |

dont let them regulate it like here! everytime we go to a bike meet / rideout / bike event, we usually see a police checkpoint which can stop and fine riders and add penalty points to your license or even ban you if they find "illegal" addons ;-( makes me feel sad..... |

Diablo - Last I knew it was illegal in every state (as it's a Federal Law) to alter the emissions equippment on a street bike, which includes the exhuast. By those rules, even a pipe that's quieter than the stocker would still be illegal. Now, as to if anyone besides Al Gore gives a damn, that's a different story... Noise limits will vary by state, and usually by municipality. |

Now, as to if anyone besides Al Gore gives a damn, that's a different story... i say this on every exhaust thread, but if you run the micron without a proper remap, you will grenade eventually. picture, if you will, trying to breathe in through pursed lips. then picture breathing out like yer blowin' the 8 ball into the far corner pocket. now do this consistently over and over until your face turns blue, you pass out, fall and bonk your noggin' and die bleeding on the floor. that pipe creates that scenario with your engine unless you remap. (I'm a "layman's terms" kinda guy... helps me understand better. al at american sportbike (dot com!) can email you a proper fuel map that can be plugged into whatever ecm you may have. you can make yer own open airbox by simply cutting away the rest of the stock box and putting a piece of styrofoam under it to hold it down. (i know... that's how i ride every day!) and the K&N filter you only have to buy once. it's a lot of money to go with the micron, but a lot cheaper to go this route than to spend the same amount you've got in the pipe on dyno runs.... |

have been informed that the micron pipes shake apart the bolts within weeks of fitting and need ongoing checking and that the metal finish is not good and headers rust fast.(probably why iyts good for race rather than road as race bikes will prob get more maintainence) also that the airbox mod I intended to buy basically lifted the front end of the air filter so that it breathes more air but it is then unfiltered... so i've have decided to keep it stock and will just replace the paper filter with an oiled K&N until i can find less damaging upgrades to my bike.
