hey folks. I'm looking into getting a used XB, preferably an Xb12S, and I was wondering if the top triple tree part that the handle bars attach to on a Lightning could be swapped onto a Firebolt with no problems, just a direct swap. Meaning, the handle bars wouldn't hit the fairing, don't need to get longer cables, etc... Also, are the foot pegs the same on both models (from what I could tell they looked the same)? I basically want the riding position of the Lightning. I need a bike with a riding position that won't hurt my back and siting on the Lightning it felt great, the Firebolt felt the same as my Triumph Thruxton which hurts my back after a little while. For longer distance freeway riding I'm assuming the Firebolt's 1/4 fairing would also help reduce wind compared to the flyscreen on the Lighting. So would that be my best bet for that type of riding if I wanted an XB? There's a limited selection of XB's in my area so I wanted to see if I did pick up an XBR that I could put the higher handle bars on there. Thanks | ||

Looks like the ignition would have to be remounted somewhere if putting XBS bars on the XBR. | ||

Look at the Heli Bars top clamp, not quite as tall as the lightning, but it is a direct swap, and is a decent adjustment to ride position. | ||

Or just raise the fairing & support up about an inch. This is what I'm doing with my TT project. | ||

buell blast bars on a XB9SX, almost a direct fit. Brings me more upright without changing cables. and allows me to get up in saddle on the dirt hoopdies  | ||

If you have back issues, and the lighting felt good, go that route. I always wished I had gotten a 12r instead; until I put a bunch of test miles on one for a friend, then I was glad for my s. Am thinking about modding up a r fairing for it though. | ||

Heres my solution to the igniton on a S top tree, first cut off the hang down thing (fairing mount?)  Next make a bracket out of whatever, I used a piece of aluminum  drill and polish if so inclined, mount to centre hole of top tree  mount ignition , viola | ||

Nice job... I am probably just going to machine up a new top clamp that incorporates the ignition lock + a ram mount for my GPS. |
