well lets see, I am having a rough running and backfiring thru the carb problem on my 2000 m2, it just hit 10,000 miles. I just had the carb worked on @HD, jets and diapham in accel pump. but it was having the problem before then... it does it when i try to cruise at low speeds..30,45 50, in those ranges. I can take off and blast thru gears no problem, and it doesnt do it over 70 mph while cruising.I changed the plugs, oil and trany fluid was changed.I have added a hi flo filter and V&H slip on months ago, I have no tach so i cant post the rpms..any ideas would be great |

A good carb setup for cruising is a 45 slow jet and the mixture screw set for best idle from 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 turns out from lightly seated. If it is set up like this and the bike still runs rough and backfires, then most likely it has a leak at the intake manifold gaskets. A test for this is to spray contact cleaner or some other flammable solvent spray where each intake manifold meets the cylinder head. If you note a change in rpms as you spray, then you've found a leak. Be cautious though, not to spray too much to avoid getting the spray into the carb inlet, thereby causing a false indication. |
