PROS: 1.) Excellent build quality 2.) Stylish for a shin/knee guard CONS: 1.) Ridiculously short straps won't reach around my calf without cutting off the circulation. Understandable if I was beefy, but I have pitiful little chicken leg calves. Unless you weigh 110 pounds, they probably won't fit you. 2.) Knee pad will not stay over my knee. The pad is a separate piece from the shinguard, but is attached at the bottom with vertical elastic straps. These straps don't provide enough give, so when I bend my leg, they pull the knee pad downward. Still covers the bottom part of my knee, but leaves the upper area too exposed. If someone wearing these kneed the ground with a bent leg while in a prone position, the pad would be useless. 3.) Though the plastic feels very sturdy, the padding behind it doesn't. Dense rubbery foam, but seems too thin to be truly effective. COST: $65 ( www.newenough.com ) OVERALL SCORE: **--- CONCLUSION: Anyone considering the Icon Field Armor Legs should probably look at some other options instead. Decent product, but overpriced for what you get. Needs improvement. ~SM (I'm sending these back for a refund, BTW.) |

Thanks, I've been seeing discussion of these in several threads as a possible alternative to riding pants. Kind of re-inforces my belief that there is no substitute for good gear. |

I have used them now for about a year underneath my jeans. The first one I returned because the straps came loose, but the second set has been great. I don't have "chicken" calves, but I find that the lower strap is too long. I'm satisfied with them. My score: ****_ |
