99 m2, even with bike definitely in neutral sometimes the neutral light does'nt come on and, she no starty! so i opened my handy dandy service manual found the switch (approx. 1 o'clock at front pulley), the wire goes up and under the starter. i've tried the standard methods ie; swearing, jumping up and down, wiggling the wire, etc. comes down to, if the bikes still hot, i have to pop start. the next day (cold), the neutral light shines neon brite, hoo hoo! maybe i have'nt looked in the right place in the service manual but, it does'nt seem to say much about the switch. anybody ever replace one? |

FYI - I had a similar problem with my 2000 M2. I pulled the indicator light panel out and giggled the LEDs. It worked find then. |

Lights? We don't need no stinkin' lights! Seriously, if it's like my 96 S1, it should start by pulling in the clutch lever (and hitting the start button). |

Remove the clutch lever switch and open it up by gently prying open the tabs. You'll likely see corrosion on the copper tab and slide. Dissassemble and use an eraser to clean the corrosion on BOTH the slide and the tab. Coat the sliding metal parts with dielectric grease. Reassemble the switch. Run a bead of silicone around the perimeter of the housing to seal out moisture. Bam. You're done. Now go ride... |

as you suspected there was in fact corrosion on the slide and tabs. my set up had a stubborn screw but, like you said the eraser cleaned it up nicey nicey. for anybody out there attempting this be prepared to see a little spring go flying, watch for it and mentally note this location for later. i'm charging the battery tonite - i'll give her a whirl tomorrow! thanks sloppy |

check out this diagram, i'm not sure i can put a jumper on the neutral switch itself, in the pic at the top of the thread you can see where the n.switch is. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/158180.html |

if the bikes still hot, i have to pop start That isn't right.Even with the "Starter interlock" thinking it's not in neutral,it must start with the clutch lever pulled in.I had a similar problem with what i thought was my kickstand switch.Ended up being the little black diode that looks like a fuse in the fuse panel. At less than $2. i was all set. If your problem IS also starter related, try replacing a diode, there are two of them on the fuse panel. They're about the size of a fuse but,are black with an important arrow, for direction right on top of them. I actually cleaned the prong of corrosion on mine and it worked, but they are so cheap i replaced them. |
