I rode to Grand Rapids, (Lowell) Michigan last weekend, and noticed a bit of a leak through all the grime from a couple weeks of winter riding. It was time to change the oil, and I had ridden in snow flurries to and from a fork oil change, and bas recall. I cleaned it up, and changed the fluids, and made sure the fitting was snug, and the line wasnt kinked. I rode this evening, and saw the leak was still there, so I headed toward the dealership, but got there just as they were closing. The service writer, Dee (Buell rider and part time racer) was saying she was sorry they were closed, but come back and give blood tomorrow, as they are having a blood drive. I told her I was puking oil from the cooler, and could they look at the fitting. She got down and said it was the cooler, and not the fitting. She was bummed that the doors were locked, she would have gone in to see if they had one, if they werent. I am going to call and see if they have one in stock. I know there is an '06 Uly on the floor, and I will see if maybe they can "borrow" that one till Monday. I will give a pint of blood for Buell if they do She is a nice person, and the mechanic seems like a good wrench. They have done all the recalls on the bike, and actually call when parts come in, and have stayed on top of things. I will buy my parts and gear from them if they do good service. I cant expect them to be happy with me if I buy online all my accessories and parts without giving them a chance. |

My oil cooler had misting at the fittings at first. After my oil change at 1000 mi I ended up detaching the fittings and sealing them with Teflon plumbers paste. No Leaks since. |

It is dry at both fittings. It appears to be a seam on the bottom. Guess I am one of 2000 for an oil cooler, Havent heard of another one leaking, other than fittings. |

I had a stubborn oil leak; turns out it was the oil return line from the oil cooler to crankcase. The 90-degree fitting (NPT pipe thread) that screws into the crankcase hadn't been "screwed in" far enough; it was only hand tight! I cranked it around another turn and it's fine now. Put a little pipe joint compound on just to make sure. |

Dr_Greg, Did that solve the leak you thought was from around the filter area? Any chance you are free to help me with TPS reset issues on my Race ECM today? |

Glad you are happy with Lake Erie HD. I am truly happy wit them as well. The only tough part is that I couldn't get in to get my BAS sensor recalled yet (due to the nice weather and everyone taking their bikes in). So sometime this week, I hope to get the Uly in there. Sucks about your oil cooler...but they will make it right. Best thing... I'm but 10 minutes from their door... (Message edited by michael1 on March 31, 2007) |

It is almost 50 miles for me. Closest dealer acted funny about buells, and I never got a call back from the place I bought it. Dee is good. She spotted the point of the leak, she has younger eyes than I do, and they have ordered a cooler and will call when it comes in. Nice folks, and they are treating me right. |

My fittings to the cooler weeped from Day 1, were snugged, no problems until about four months ago. Seepage around the bottom of the cooler turned into drips onto my new Sidi and a misting onto the left of the engine. Tech at the dealer pronounced the cooler as defective, I wire-tied a shop rag as a diaper until the warrantied cooler came in. New cooler dumped on me on the way home because the tech didn't tighten the lines enough but once I finished the job it's been leak/seep-free for the last month. |
