Just had my low cut seat replaced with a new one this Saturday. The original one had a slight rip. The new seat was a bear to get latched in. The service tech at the dealership finally had to shim up the latch mechanism to make it work. I expect the seat pan to relax a bit after some use but I was bothered by this lack of quality control in replacement parts. I'm waiting patiently for a set of panniers so I can take my Uly to work. ... I trust the plastic block that fits on the ECM bolt was installed? Not sure if it's caused the problem. DAve |

My bike was parked next to the techs' Uly and the new seat had difficulty latching on it as well.We compared both bikes and couldn't see any differences. Not a big deal in and of itself but what happens if the next component isn't as easy to adapt to or modify? I was happy to learn that the gentleman who will be servicing my bike owns one as well. Barry |

You really didn't answer the question Barry. In addition, did his seat latch on yours correctly? I had a low seat and 2 stock seats w/no problems. If it were I, they'd order me another seat. A Buell seat fitment problem should not be resolved with shimming. If you were fitting a Corbin, I'd expect some fitment issues. DAve |

My low seat was way off as far as the fitment as well. I already had a block installed where it said to put the one with the low seat. They were the same size, but I replaced it with the new one anyway, just so I could drop that nut a couple times. I like the stock seat better for comfort, and I have gotten used to shifting the bike back and forth, with my 30 inch inseam. Supposed to have your feet on the pegs anyway. |

where is there supposed to be a block on the low seat? I bought mine with a low seat and want to make sure all is fine. Also is the 2007 seat narrower than the low 2006 seat? |

The issue is not the quality control of the seat pan, it is the amount of tension put on the seat cover when it is installed. If it is pulled too tight, it bows the pan from front to back such that it takes a gorilla to get it latched. After the cover stretches from riding and heat, everything is just fine. I found this out by having some upholstery mods done to a perfectly fitting seat. The guy had to stretch the cover to reinstall it and I had a pain putting it on the Uly the first time. Just get it on, ride it and everything will be fine. No shims or anything. About the blocks, they are not on the seat but used in the mounting of the ECM so that we heavier chaps don't squash it. |
