Could be a broken primary chain tensioner (hopefully for you) with the broke part wedged somewhere critical. Do you have the updated part? If not that, then it could be the 5th gear drive assembly. Do you run your belt tight? You have to pull the tranny (not actually that bad a job) and press out the drive assembly for that (and then get further presses of bearings in and out on that assembly). |

don't know if it's been updated or not, just odd how it acted thought it was heat related but didn't get better. no noises just wont shift in to those gears. |

Drop your primary, and I'm guessing the cause will be obvious (I'd bet on the tensioner as well) |

Could also be the detent plate retaining clip, or some of the pins may have backed out from the shift drum. All three scenarios are fairly common, and will be obvious if you take Bombers suggestion. I would not be riding it like that. There is a good chance there is a rogue something or other floating around in there. It would probably be a dirt cheap fix pre "crunchy noise", but could get very expensive post "crunchy noise". |

Thats good news! Use the new metal primary gasket, not the old paper ones. I reused my metal one 3 or 4 times with no problem on my M2. The paper ones often failed to hold even when brand new |
