Well, I'm new here. Bought an 07 Uly in Feb and it just turned 1K miles. Yesterday the engine light came on and I searched the forum for clues as to why. I found a post about error code 21 and the horn and brake lights not working. I went out to the garage, checked the bike and sure enough, neither worked. Changed the fuse and all was well again. Didn't see an answer as to what causes the fuse to blow? Is there something I'm missing or should be looking for?

I had this happen to me once so far. I've had the bike since 8/6, and blew the first one a month or two ago. I just carry a couple of spares now. It hasn't been a major issue yet. I think I asked this question when mine blew, and I was told it's pretty much a non-issue...

take it back to the dealer where you bought it, have them look at it because it's still under warranty!!!

Don, thanks for mentioning the obvious. I had already spoke to the local dealership. They said no reason to bring the bike in because replacing the fuse fixed the problem. Nothing they could do if the problem wasn't a constant.

So, I'm still a little curious about this and that's why I asked the question here. Fuses don't just blow without a good reason. In fact, I have never had a blown fuse on a bike or car before in my life. I guess I'll just buy some more fuses and keep riding. May have been a one time thing.

There are some suspect wiring problem areas common the the Uly. I don't know if the circuits involved are the one that fuse protects or not but checking/ fixing these areas is a must do anyway. There are very likely wires rubbing or subjected to too much heat actually laying on the top of your rear cylinder's valve cover. I have heard of problems where the wiring goes from the frame to the front end at the steering head. Also the wire running to the fuel pump. The last time mine was at the dealership, they saw some of these problems and replaced the entire wiring harness. If you examine your wiring and find any rubbed bare wires or melted wires, take it to the dealership to be fixed under warranty.

Dirt, I understand your post but I think Panhead Dan said it best that there have been some wiring problems on some of the Uly's and I think if I had a fuse blow, I would take it back to my dealer and have them look at it. I wouldn't just ask them to look at it, I would DEMAND that they take a look at it if nothing else, just to have it documented just in case it happens again, maybe even after the warranty had expired. New motorcycles shouldn't blow a fuse unless somebody is playing around with the wiring or there is actually something wrong with the wiring!

I had the same thing happen to me abut 2500 mi on my '06 the only difference i was out riding when it happened and it scared the crap outa me to see that light on the dash come on! I pulled over and checked the bike out and rode it home using hand signals... I think that possibly some of the factory fuses were inferior, now i have 4400mi on the clock and i havent had another problem...

My Buell dealer is going to check horn wiring when doing the BAS.Said there was a notice awhile back about tight wire to horn or possible rubbing.I may check it before they get it though.Now if the da@n
snow and ice would melt!!!!
