i'm thinking of changing my pipe and lookin for opinions on the jardine: performance, durability, fit and finish. just want some feedback before i make the investment. thanks to all.

I love mine, but you will have to repack it every 5k miles or so.

Im in the same position - i've been told to stay well away from jardine by almost everybody - you get what you pay for ...

trojan horse's site has pipes like the remus & hp big oval - im thinking of the hp oval myself or possibly a drummer.

I've got 15,000 trouble free miles on my jardine and just repacked it about two months ago.
Still sounds good, and works great.

If you check out the exhaust review you will find that the Jardine is in the top 3 for peak torque, peak horsepower, has the best power and torque through the infamous dip from 4-5k RPM, and is the cheapest. To me this makes it the best buy when combined with the best exhaust note IMO.

Very nice exhaust note in my opinion as well. However the 'dip' in this pipe is 2k-3k rpm. Most pipes on the nines had a slight if not noticable dip somewhere in the usable rev range.

True, but I don't ever run the engine below 3k so it works to my advantage. I always feel like I'm lugging it when it's below 3k.

Its really hard deciding on a muffler man - I keep reading good & bad reviews on the Jardine.

My problem is - I really like the feedback on the drummer etc but then you see posts where they get bored & end up opting for a stainless steel such as the micron or remus.
Im in europe & I am thinking on the HP big oval but its like nearly £500 thats almost $900 ish.

In the long run most peeps with the jardine say - they tired of repacking - others don't have a problem - the price & the stainless steel & lightweight are very attractive for the price but for the long term - you might as well opt for something better made for double the price.

My problem is - I ride in the low to mid mostly as I commute in London - I really want a muffler that gives good power down low but has a nice low thump but then I read the Jardine is only good top end and , I may lose power down below ... I have an XB9SX btw

So wat to choose.. ??

I would love a drummer SS for the price of a HP big oval but Kevin has a 3 to 4 month waiting list ! !!

So its back to a jardine again maybe take a risk ?? not sure but alot of buellers seem to have em - so something must be right ... right ?

The d&d has peeps saying its a little too loud - so that aint gonna work here in the UK
the remus has some good feedback here but again - its a lil more expensive than the HP big Oval.

Theres hardly any info or feedback on the HP big oval apart from Trojan Horse who distribute it - I trust their judgement - but im not 100% sure on paying half a G just for a muffler - when all I really want is a better sound & yes a lil more power would'nt hurt but it aint important .... Im not sure I have much choice tho - so it will prob be an HP or Remus & try to remember my bike wasn't cheap in the 1st place.

So peeps who have been down this road - give us your wisdom - to jardine or not to jardine or maybe something else ?

Also I see they do the Jardine in Carbon fiber & the Titanium - do you still have to repack these ones & which is better ?

Moondust - for the type of riding you do, the Jardine is a terrible choice. I know because I had a Jardine on my XB9SX. Even with the Race Kit ECM and filter, the motor ran terribly below 3000 rpm, stuttering and surging as I tried to accelerate.

Another problem was the noise. I have open pipes on all my bikes but for some reason the Jardine on my Buell gave me headaches, with or without earplugs.

The final problem was the fact that my Jardine's rivets loosened after barely 2000 miles. The second can they sent me seemed to be a bit stronger, but I always worried.

I ended up changing over to a regular Drummer several months ago and am very, very happy with it. The engine runs so much better at all but peak rpm (where the Jardine really worked well, I must admit). Around town riding is much more pleasurable and the throttle response is so much smoother. Plus, the noise is a bit deeper and quieter and now I can ride 200 miles or more with none of the weird 'resonance headaches' I would get with the Jardine.

Before I got my Drummer, I never really understood the 'cult' surrounding it. But now I am a full-fledged member!

Mmmm the drummer - I am very tempted but i still read posts on drummer users who end up getting a stainless steel exhaust - so the price seems a bit steep for a modifyed stock can which is just heavy & prone to rust later on down the line. I want get an exhaust that I can fit & leave for a couple of years.

I think the jardine is out - so I am left with the D&D - Remus or HP oval - also a drummer ss would be great but the wait time on it is 4 months so Im gutted on that.

How about a D&D ? they would be cheaper than the euro cans - are they any good on the 9SX ? for low end ?

Drummer heavy? Think you need to recheck that one. People that have changed from the original drummer have gone to the stainless drummer. (at least thats what I have read) Oh and no rust on my drummer after 2.5 yrs. Ultimately your decision but if you have all the correct facts then you will be happy with your final choice.

I currently run a D&D on my XB9S and I love it.
Yes, it's a bit loud and you'll probably set off a few car alarms, but you will also get lots of compliments on the way it sounds.
It's just a few octaves lower than a Harley with drag pipes.
I think the torque curve kicks in around 3800 RPM, but I could be wrong about that. It's been a while since I've ridden it due to all this snow.
I think American Sportbike has a dyno chart on the D&D, too.

Moondust - since rust is your concern then just get on the waiting list for the Drummer SS. Your wait will be over before you know it and I know you will be happy with it. Seriously, Kevin Drum's products are superbly crafted and I think would satisfy your needs perfectly.

Moondust - If you don't want to wait, then by all means get the Micron. It won the exhaust shootout that Al at American Sportbike put together and no one seems to have anything bad to say about it. Plus, it's all stainless so no rust worries.

The only downside is that it's a full system, which by nature requires more effort to install than a slip-on system.

Okay, I'm going to "out" myself as a moron here, but I have the Jardine and, for the life of me, I can't figure out how to repack it. It just doesn't seem to come apart in any way. What am I missing here?

By the way, I LOVE the sound of the pipe. Don't order the quiet insert, though. Made it sound like a lawnmower, and killed the power.

You have to drill out the rivets on the exhaust tip end of the can, pull out the end cap and then pull out the baffle and packing. You can buy muffler repacking kits (most available for dirtbikes) or use some type of steel wool.

The Micron is so loud that I cannot ride bike a long way even with earplugs without getting ringing in my ears. It does however go fantastic.
