Either its just me or I'm imagining things but I thought most motorcycles come with some kind of helmet lock that you can attach a spare helmet to or attach yours to so you don't have to carry your helmet with you into a store? What do you guys (& girls) do with your helmet when your stopped at a store, do you bring it in with you? Also how can one attach a spare helmet to this motorcycle just incase I need to pick up or drop off a passenger? Getting a little off subject, I live in South Carolina where if your over 18 you don't need a helmet, but my head is worth more than a few bucks not to put it in a helmet so I'll always be wearing one. | ||

Mine has a helmet lock on the left hand side (Uly). I've never used it. If I were going shopping long term, I'd leave my helmet at customer service. If I'm just running into a quick mart, I set it on the ground next to my bike. As far as a passenger helmet, I would probably use a bungie net for mine. | ||

I just got a universal helmet lock that I attached to the right-top passenger peg bracket. Looks like it's made to fit on a round bar, but the peg mount is sorta round on the outside so it just fits. | ||

As you may have noticed... Every time you ask a serious question that most know the answer to... The first few are useless answers. Here's what I know. I have an XB9R and no helmet lock either. However in my tool kit was a metal cord with 2 loops. What the hell do you do with that? I'll tell ya. Basically, as I was told, you can attach that cord from your helmet (in a loop from the helmet ring) to the latch under the rear end of the seat (or under the pass. seat on a R) That may help. If you dont have the cord... Go to the dealer, tell them you're missing yours and they should be able to hook you up. Have them show you what I mean about using it as a helmet lock. Thanks Nutsnbolt I've always wondered what the cable was for, in the manual it lists it as a "security cable" but a security cable for what and how to use it isn't mentioned anywhere in it, you would figure they would say something about that in the manual. But now it all makes perfect sense. Thanks! | ||

I got a Helmet guardian for mine. It bolts onto to the license plate bracket via security screws and has two locks for two helmets. It's not the prettiest set up but it's functional. I was originally going to do like a fellow Badweber here did. He removed the side reflectors (not the brackets) took the helmet guardian locks off their plate & mounted them on the reflector brackets. It looked really good, factory even but one night my side reflectors literally saved my parked bike from being trampled over by a large lifted chevy so I decided to keep them & I mounted the guardian on my plate bracket as the product was intended. I don't have any pics but a quick google search for Helmet Guardian should do the trick. | ||

every once in a while if im going to get a passenger i just buckle my helmet to the strap on the pillion seat it works ok if ur not goin to far otherwise i always bring my lid with me when i go into anywhere i lost a 400$ helmet leavin it on my bike. | ||

Buelltroll, that might just be the best damn thing I've seen for the helmet. I don't know why Buell wouldn't do that, themselves. I usually put my helmet in one of the huge a$$ bags on my Uly. If they're full, I used to struggle with the helmet lock (even harder to use with the bags on) until I started carrying a small cable with to use with the lock. In fact I can lock 2 helmets on easily with the cable. | ||

I picked up the small yale padlock and a $.79 u-bolt with self locking nuts from home depot. Attached them to the cheesegrater footgard on the right side of the bike. Nice solid helmet lock. If I can get it to work i'll post pix. | ||

i use a 4-5' long 1/8" vinyl coated cable ,with 2" loops at both ends of the cable run one end up your jacket sleave and trough the chin bar of your helmet , run the loop through the other loop take the unlooped loop and put it over one of the seat retaining screw heads (s-model) re-install seat and you are good to go!!! | ||

Normally, I just hang my helmet by its strap, on the part of the fairing that sticks back (under the handlebars). I also catch the turn signal, so the helmet wont be easily knocked off. And on the left side only (melted the edge of my helmet visor on the exhaust on the right side once...). Of course, I live where I can do this. If I feel there's a security issue, I use a snowboard lock I carry with me--it's a small unit that carries 3' or so of steel cable on a reel, you just pull it out like a tape measure, string it through the helmet and a part of the bike, and lock it back into the the built-in combination lock. I usually string my jacket onto it as well. | ||

I put my helmet on the passenger peg and use a cable style gun lock to secure the chin guard to the passenger peg bracket. | ||

Use that little figure 8 loop thing that comes in the Buell tool kit. loop the ends through your helmet eyelets and strap it around your seat click in pegs. That's how I do it on my 04 XB12S. I can even ride it if I wanted to with it locked in there. I have if it's just downt the block or something | ||

Althought I dislike it, I do what chainsaw does. Sad thing is Ive owned the bike for about 2 yrs, and just recently figured out how to use the "helmet lock" on the buell. I really like the L-bracket idea because it seems like I can turn it into a project. I loooooooooooove projects. Oh yea Ill be putting a glow kit on my bike this weekend, ok far enough off topic | ||

On the S (not sure about the SS). Remove seat strap and put in circular file. Take seat off and hang D ring from helmet over seat post. Put seat back on (strap should exit seat through space where seat strap was). Free locked helmet. | ||

guys I have the same thing as the HD helmet lock and I attached it to the bar on the xb9r by the shifter...and the bar is a cudder hair skinny and now I cant get the screws of...how do you get them off I want to mover them to the rear peg....If anyone could help me out let me know...I know its prob not coming off easy is it.. I keep my helmet in the hard saddlebags of my Uly, I only wear it when it rains. On the Uly you can also bungie net down onto the adjustable backrest/cargo shelf. | ||

Well after busting my knuckels and pintching my hand in the pliers im guessing that isnt gonna work...so i gotta figure out am i gonna cut it off and find new screws and a bracket or just leave it and buy another one and use the other one as a spare... Its a pain to use down there now and I dont use it all that often i will carry it instead... | ||

Here's a funny thing, at the 2006 motogp i asked this very question to the guys at the factory rig. Btwn A marketing guy a mech and an engineer there, none of em' were able to explain that lil cord to any satisfaction as to how it worked. They were all a lil perplexed, and kept goin and gettin another guy to try and make it hold a helmut. Eventually they gave up and gave me another "Buell Racing" t-shirt and a fistful of red bull. | ||

Yeah I could see a bunch of Buell reps not understanding how to use the cable strap, I guess it depends on the helmet for how effective it works. I have to get my butt to the HD dealer and get me one of those helmet locks that attach to the passenger pegs, those look sharp and should function rather nicely. |
