I used these folks for all sorts of chroming, including chroming the rims on my '75 Norton Commando. They do BLUE chrome, not brown. They do great work!! Hilton Chrome - 75 Holy St., Lawrence, MA 978-687-3467 For my area, I go to: http://www.bostonbiker.com/chrome.htm They list all the chromers in the Boston area and then some... like Texas, S.C., FL... |

Sweet. Thanks for the info. I've been wanting to do this for quite a while. I'll be sure and get serious about it after I get back home in April. I would do it now (along with some powdercoating), but I could just see taking my bike apart this close to MBIV and not getting everything back in time or running into a problem. Better safe than sorry I guess. |

be careful who you have do it. make sure they really know what they are doing... the xb rims are a very difficult rim to chrome. i tried to have mine chromed and the plater screwed them up 3 times. they ended up giving me my money back and bought me a new set of rims... i will never try to have them chromed again. |

Tell me what sort of problems they were running into so I can avoid the issues you had. Also, anyone that has had this done successfully, I'd love some contact information for the shop that did the work. I'm not really in the mood for buying new rims because I couldn't leave well enough alone. |

Philip I have a "black chrome" powder coat that will look sweet over that gold anodizing... www.specialized-powdercoating.com and click prices, motorcycles and you should see wheel prices. We have done Buell wheels successfully in the recent past. Again the only chromer I would recommend is Browns, you can look them up on the web and find a local dealer for them. |

Philip, the problem we were having is, it is very hard to get the chrome to flow into all of the recesses of the wheel. it has a lot of little wholes that the chrome has to get in to and if they don't wire the wheel up just right the chrome wont cover it, and if it doesn't get covered that is a spot that dirt and road salt can get under the chrome which can lead to bubbling. not to mention the wheels are not reel smooth. so they will have to polish them before chroming. so the chrome will look smooth. if they don't it will look really wavy. i hope that helps you some. |

Thanks for the tips guys. Maybe the black chrome powdercoat is the way to go then. I want them to look good. Sounds like chrome on my existing rims might be too big of a pain. The main thing is I'm really unhappy with the factory finish on the amber rims. Despite the local Ironhorse dealership guys being very careful, they chip a little more off the edge of the rims every time I get a tire mounted. They look like crap now after four tire changes in the last 10,000 miles. It looks like I mounted the tires myself with a handful of screw drivers and a crowbar. )-: |

the powdercoat will chip too. hate to be the bearer of bad news. Why not have just the lip polished? so it will not chip anymore. |

Yeah, someone was selling a set of rims a while back that had been powdercoated black with the lip polished. I thought that looked bada$$. I'm having a problem with the factory amber finish chipping off during tire changes. If the owner of those rims still has them, I'd be interested in a possible trade for mine plus some cash, but I don't need an extra set of rims. Any chance of working something out? I would be well pleased with those rims on my bike. That's something I would be interested in doing immediately (before MBIV). Question though - Would it hurt my tires to take them off my rims and remount them on the new rims? They're brand new Corsa III's with less than 500 miles on them. I'd hate to not be able to use them. (Message edited by Tx05xb12s on February 14, 2007) |

Darn, the rims in question belonged to Will Holbrook and he already sold them. Oh well, at least he gave me a good idea for something to do with mine when I start powdercoating everything. Thanks guys. |

YEAH chrome rims like those. Where'd you get them done? I've seen your bike before and think it looks great. I really like the black powdercoated ones with the polished edges, but just straight chrome is what I really wanted. I don't want to create a problem for myself though. How are yours holding up? |

The previous owner had the rims chromed and I guess it was done at someplace in Indianapolis . I had the bike for a few years now and they are holding up except for one little spot on the rear where it's starting to flake. No matter where I go on this bike, everybody looks, asks questions, and gives me a . |
