I wonder if Gates or one of the other belt manufactures would build a belt that you could actually get 15000 miles out of. It would be great if you could go to that mileage, replace the belt and not have to worry about being stranded for the next 15000 miles......ANYBODY LISTENING? But alas, on the other Badweb pages you read tales of woe about 2000 mile belts on the Ulysses. |

They should just upgrade it to what the other bikes are running, problem solved. BTW, major props to Dave @ Appleton, shipped my new belt, it should arrive shortly. I factored out the down time between dealer warranty B.S., and the purchase of a new one, guess who lost. |

I recommend looking the stock belts over really closely at 7000 miles and every couple of hundred after that, and any sign of anything going bad order a new on so it arrives before it goes! |

Before anybody reads this and gets the idea that the Blast is maintenance intensive-IT IS NOT! The Blast is very low maintenance, possibly one of the least maintenance dependent bikes you'll ever own! It should be noted that regular inspection is a part of owning any motorcycle! |

Although I'm sure Badweb will be fine without me, I'll be offline for about a week until I get back from NYC. Hopefully you'll see my boy on tv Tuesday night (Westminster Dog Show-Hound group-Basenji)! (Message edited by gearheaderiko on February 10, 2007) |

I finally did it - put a new belt and rear sprocket - 27,500 miles. The belt actually looked great - no cracks or other signs of hard wear - it was just a bit stretched. The hard part: First the bolts that hold the plastic cover to motor were seized - my mechanic (husband) had to drill them out and re-thread. Second: Trying to figure out how to lift rear end without an axel stand. I now have a new use for the little giant ladder!! Back on the road again...Happy Trails to all |

Themagster: Is this the RECORD for the longest lasting BLAST Drive Belt ??? "i" have found that when the BELT is "a bit stretched" it is about to break ... This is the way it was before a friends belt broke ... "i" did away with the PLASTIC SPROCKET COVER and used long grade 8 hex bolts and torqued to 22 ft. lbs. with locte tight ... Use car body stands under my foot pegs to get rear wheel off the ground ... In BLASTing LaFayette (Message edited by buellistic on February 10, 2007) |

gearheaderiko- good luck @ the dog show. I did inspect my belt, w/ no signs of wear. Just tried to take off from my office, let the clutch out, pop, no more belt. At least I was on the hiway, out west, you slow down you get mowed over. I still enjoy my bike, I just hate it when I can't ride it. |

Themegster, How did you get that much life on a belt? The Big Kids belt started to look loose and it broke shortly there after! There are pictures of lifting a Blast in here some where, I think in the Quick Board archives, basicly you use jack stands and place them in the upside down "Y" of the foot peg bracket, Tip it to the left on the kick stand first and then to the right on the stand to get the left up. |

Don’t know about being the record holder for miles on a belt. We kept looking at it and by appearances it looked OK. At around 25,000 I thought about changing it, but did not think it warranted it. When it became apparent it was getting loose – then it’s a no brainer to change it. I honestly do not know how I get the miles I do, I guess it’s just good luck, or maybe karma. Just as Earl. I by no means totally baby the bike, but I don’t do wheelies either. Everyone wants to know when I am “going to trade up”. They forget I have had the bigger bikes but just love this machine. And so far it has done me real proud. I’ll ride it ‘till I kill it. Then, probably rebuild it! Thanks for the ideas on lifting the rear end. Just hated to buy some fancy jack when you can use what’s around the garage. Worked just fine. |

Themagster, I slide a bronze rod I had around the garage through the rear axle and tilt first one side, then the other, on to jack stands. As long as your not removing the tire it works well. Good luck. |

hey guys, just bumming around on the net and thought I'd say "hey". Its currently 18 degrees outside with about an inch and a half of ice covering the ground and most of the roads due to the recent ice storm, sorta makes me still wish I had old Honda xr70 from when I was a kid..... we had spiked ice tires for it when it snowed like this hehe. |

EZ, Did you get your stator done? Snow....ice???? I went through the UP and they have nothing to speak of up there but very cold temps, below zero for quite a while. There is a ski flying championship going on in Iron Mountain this week, skiers from all over the world, but its been too windy for them to practice this week. The skiers are staying at the same hotel that Daves arranged when he brought up his Ride Your Uylesses to the UP promotion. I'm glad I sold a couple of my snowmobiles! Now I can move to Alabama! |

I'm finally back on track. New belt is on. Rode it last nite, sure felt good in the cool AZ air. Sorry for those of you who are toughing it out in the cold and snow. Heads Up- Arizona bike week is coming, I think in March. |

Allenbassin, Could you tell why the stator bolts broken off? Did it hit the hub? |
