Once a year usually in the months of February or January, someone goes down on my bike goes down. This year is no exception, 02/09/07 12:05am... As I am going to sleep I get a call from my friend whose car I borrowed in exchange for the firebolt. Sure enough he went down, someone does a u-turn in front of him, he panicked and lowsided smashing the bike into the car. The good news my friend is alright, the gear really saved him from anything more then sore shoulder. So he was very lucky this time... So here is the damage to the car, I am quite impressed...
The bike fared rather well...
So to sum it all up: never let anyone borrow your bike, even if you need to borrow their car... the buell is one hell of a sturdy machine. (the rest of the bike is nearly unscathed) It is very painful to see your bike hurting when one is not directly responsible for its ails, especially when its not the first time... And as usual gear is oh so very important... |

Yeah, definetely follow that rule of NOONE touching my bike.. Learnt that the hard way.. 3 weeks into owning (new), let a guy take it for a ride, and grabbed a fistful of front brake, you can guess the rest.. |

sounds very similar to the second incident, but at least I got a Ducati s4r to commute on for a month out of that one... Well one thing is for sure, I am never going to sell this one... Its just been through too much. |

A true biker would sooner loan his WIFE to a friend than his ride... |

So - exactly how many times did take you to loan your bike to friends before you figured out it's not such a good idea??? I only let ONE other person ride me bike, and that's because he lets me ride his and he's WAY more responsible that I. |

No doubt about it... I was very stupid of me to let anyone borrow the bike, but I needed a car that evening (I don't have a car). And the Ducati incident, well we traded bikes on the way back from the canyons, (he was curious about the firebolt and I was curious about the S4R). |

I too had my 2003 9 totaled by someone other than myself. I eventually got the 12 in 04 but it was a tough lesson. A good rule of thumb is unless they are willing to let me hold the keys of a machine of equal or greater value...it ain't gonna happen! |

Stealthxb, thanks sadly that rule of thumb did not go too well for me either time... both the Ducati S4R and the Subaru WRX are pricier, and still doom had followed |

My Laverda has some marks on it from loaning it to a friend 30 years ago, I could have replaced these pieces during the restoration but thought it would be best to keep a reminder to never loan it out again! |

I have a very good friend that has bikes, he has let me ride his, but I will NEVER ever ever ever let him ride anything of mine. He just doesn't "Get It" I won't even ride with him anymore, nor will I let my two sons ride with him, and I recommend to all my other friends not to ride with him. He is a complete and total scarey dumbshit when it comes to anything but pickup trucks. Never does he ever ride at a comfortable, sane pace. |

If you saw the way I ride my CityX over the dirty roads here, you would NEVER let me borrow your bike, much less your wife The day anyone else ride my bike, is the day I trade them the keys for money and it is now their bike. |

Ouch! Sorry about your bike. Someone over at advrider said something I found pretty quotable: "Swapping bikes is not as bad as swapping underwear, but definitely worse than swapping toothbrushes". |

Not married... but if I were you'd have about the same shot of borrowing her as you would my bike... Unless, of course, I marry Paris Hilton. If that were the case, odds are you've already HAD her. Everyone else has... |
