Some of you may remember that I had some problems with a race ecm for my XB12R. This first one I got couldn't be made to run properly. I send it back to the internet supplier I bought it from and then was told that they were unable to replace it as none were available - they were on back-order. After waiting months I complained and they sent me a re-flashed stock ecm after assuring me it would be exactly the same. Unfortunately this one didn't work either. Many months later I finally got a third ecm - this time another 'real' race ecm. Then I broke my wrist and couldn't ride so there was a further delay. Even when my wrist healed I just put this issue in the 'too hard basket'. The other day I finally got around to (worked up the courage to) fit the race ecm - and it works! I fitted it myself at home last Thursday 1 Feb. and tried it. Bike idled, but the off-idle response was terrible and it would cough, sputter and stall at small throttle openings. At larger/faster throttle openings and higher revs it seemed to run fine however. This was a good sign. I called the one and only Buell dealer in Perth, Western Australia and the earliest they could get me in for a throttle position sensor reset was Mon 12 Feb. - nearly 2 weeks later! Yesterday (Wed 7 Feb) I called them and said "Come on guys, it's a 5 min job - can you do it sooner? Like Thu or Fri?" They said, "bring it in first thing tomorrow." So, I rode it in to their shop this morning. I had to keep blipping the engine and slipping the clutch to get it under way from every lights as it simply wouldn't run smoothly below 4000rpm. But above 4000rpm - it ran great! At the dealer, I waited outside the workshop, pacing and wringing my hands. Eventually, I heard my bike start up and the mechanic/technician came roaring out of the doors on a testride. "It works!" I thought. Sure enough the workshop manager came up to me and said, "Looks like third time lucky". Whew.

glad you it finally worked out for you. I apologize again for the wait (long wait) and the attempt to make a reflashed one work. |
