Sportsters were not considered "Chick bikes" until the Hugger variant was introduced in the late '80s. (I forget if it was '88 or '89). Prior to that, Sportsters were considered "Half-a-Harleys" by some of the bikers in the larger states through the mid-west and western states, while they were preferred by many East Coast bikers, where, outside the cities, roads tended to be narrower and twistier, and the cities themselves have narrower streets with more traffic congestion. I've always liked Sportsters, and have owned a few, both Iron motors and Evos. I consider Buells the direction the Sportster should have gone in, rather than a diluted version of a Big Twin. |

Can't say as I care much about Sportsters......I have a Ulysses and that cancels any need for a Harley. |

quote:A little help please, no new Buells means what?? IS Buell broke? Are we all gonna be left to fen (sp?) for our own bike parts in Randys pick a part? Does this mean there is no 08 line or is it too early to tell? Forgive me for I know not what I am asking, just that I dont know what the hell "no Buells introduced this morning" means.
No NEW models were introduced. They are still making the current models. All is good. Don't worry like that! |

Ok..I normally don't post about "what's next from Buell" topics. But I will here. For those of you who don't know me, I was the Director for the 3%ers here in Atlanta before BRAG went south. Anyway, Cameron (aka Clown here on the BadWeb) is a HUGE support of Buell at SMHD/Buell. (Stone Mountain H-D/Buell). He just called me from the Dealer meeting after a one-on-one conversation with Erik. Erik told him that there would be a Buell dirt-bike in the next 2 years. Yup...Dirt bike. Clown (Cameron)...asked if it would be a thumper. Erik said he was thinking bigger. Clown asked for more details and he said, "Are you Crazy?, You are all over the BAdWeB....no way, that's all you get". This is no BS from B_s. This is straight from Clowns mouth. |

A dirt bike? I think that if H-D wanted to build dirt bikes, they should have bought KTM when they had the chance. |

If Erik didn't want anyone to know, he wouldn't have told someone he knows is an intregal part of BadWeb. Part of the fun of future products is to get a little info out and start the hype. Why do you think auto manufacturers call people like me to put bits on information in the magazines, or arrange spyphotos (yes, not all of those are caught in the "wild"). I see no problem with him posting that here, it sounds like he practically had Erik's blessing. --Sean |

actually, if they didn't want anyone to know they wouldn't have announced it to about 500 people. Yes, Buell is going to "get dirty" and we were not told to keep it a secret, just the opposite actually. I got back from the Bueller's gathering, and a person from Buell said I must be slackin since I'm leaving, in that I had not posted it yet. Yes, Buell is going to build dirt bikes! I think that is awesome. |

That new Sportster has a list of parts that I need for the other side of my garage. Fork Gaters, black fender struts, black turn signals, those wheels are definites, and now that they are stock H-D parts, I can get them at a discount to finish my Retro 57 Buell and a Dirty Bike? FABULOUS! |

I wouldn't mind getting a new dirt bike. I'd be interested in seeing what BMC would consider a dirt bike. Not exactly the superbike everyone seems to be clamoring for but who cares... might be different. |

Buell Dirt Bike !?! Can you say Blast engine punched out to at least 650cc, Uly type frame with even more fuel capacity, really tall suspension and thump, thump, thump away!!! If they build a bike like that who's going to run one at Baja or Dakar??? Daves or Court, got any more details? |

I'd take an IL 4 Blast any day over a dirt bike. I could be cynical here and point out the profit margins involved for a Buell dirt bike. Imagine it won't be cheap, but it will be competitive in price against import dirt bikes, and that's where the customer will make the saving. Clever business indeed. There's certainly a huge market to be cornered with a domestic dirt bike, but I'd have to ask if this is the watered down Buell we speak of. If there's any truth in this, I'd say Buell are building bikes for the home market and screw what we Europeans have been asking for for 7 years. My MV brochure is right next to me. The words best Streetfighter is featured in it. This could be the start of Rocket's long goodbye some will be pleased to hear Rocket |

Cochise....I'm crushed that you wouldn't tell me any of your "secrets"...just posting what Clown asked me to since he wasen't near the BadWeb. Besides, how's that ruining it for you when it was told at the dealer meeting? You get 0 stars for whining. |

Hmmmm, let's see now. A dirt bike with an exhaust under the motor, a frame that gets written off the first time it is dropped on a big rock, belt drive full of mud/grit, a rim mounted disk ploughing through the mud/sand? Buell has invested so much in the XB platform, I cannot understand what direction they are going to go with a dirt bike? It seems wrong to me. But I'll wait and see what happens. |

crap, now i need to keep my CR250 for TWO more years. hmmm. screw the rest of you, i'm excited. go Buell! . ..why would they just half-ass it by putting an XB in the 'real' dirt? no one believes Erik and crew are smarter than that? the Uly was done right, why not give 'em credit to take it to the next dirty level? i just hope its not one of those giant bikes, off-roading to me requires a VERY light and capable bike. none of that Dakar stuff. i wanna thump through tight woods AND be able to pick it up after a digger. reignite my lust for ATK, please |
