I bought the supplies to wrap the headers on my M2 last summer and just now got around to actually using them. I used a 1" black wrap from Eastwood and followed up with a high temp black silicone coating. I'm quite pleased with the results.  Now I just need to finish painting the muffler to match and get it reinstalled. | ||

Sanchez I'm fitting an XB front end to my S3. Curious as to whether you used your original triple clamps shaft or the XB's. I have pressed my S3 one out and modified the lower triple with a mill so that it gives me all the right clearences. Also as the XB'S fork legs are shorter how has it affected your handling/ground clearence. I'll post some pics when I get it sorted out. Jodie By the way that is one sweet ride you have there!  | ||

I am unfortunately a poor source of information on the conversion, as the surgery was performed by the previous owner. He's no longer on the board that I know of, but there's another Buell surgeon named Sjh who has a ton of technical info on the operation. | ||

I bought a race header that has some scrapes and dings in it. Other than if it is bent out of alignment, will dings effect anything? They are like dimples. My plan was to wrap it and use it. Any surface prep needed other than as per instructions? Charlie, what would make someone love the wrapping in hot weather, is it that good of an insulation? I was thinking about using an aftermarket car muffler, but a baffled system, not a glass pack. Any suggestions? | ||

John (Silas), I don't think small dings will affect flow at all and I also wrapped my M2 a while back to keep heat off my full fairing and am well pleased with the insulating effects of the wrap. Only prep was cleaning with a solvant on my bare SS pipes. You can actually touch the header without getting burnt. I too am using an inexpensive 2 1/2" straight thru fiberglass packed car muffler from Jegs or Summit racing but with an insert from Car Chemistry "www.carchemistry.com" A nice sound, not too loud, and a boost in H.P. I also like the new "spiral flow" muffler from Moroso. No packing although mine has been fine I think because of the large I.D. size and little restriction. I don't think you could use the insert with the Moroso though as you need about 5" of straight pipe to insert it flush. Enjoy your project. Buells are really fun to work and improve on. Bob | ||

Silas, You can ride in the city on the hottest day in NC and heat from the pipes won't be an issue. You will still get hot,but not that wanting to put your right leg up over the handlebar feeling. You could ride in shorts(not recommended for other reasons) and if you bumped the pipes, not get burnt. Also your carb. won't get as hot on those hot days and start trying to vaporlock on you. It's a win,win deal....Charlie | ||

I took them off, wrapped them, put them back on until they stopped smoking, took them back off, painted them, and put them back on. |
