Way COOL.

....Oh give it a rest.Mr. Spive, have you EVER owned WATERCOOLED bike? Ever experience a Superbike? I didn't think so...If it were up to you Harley&Company would probably still be running Flatheads.Tell me,why did they go to OHV instead of sticking to the Flathead? Don't you just lust after the Flathead? Silly Overhead Valves..too complex right?

There is no water-cooled sportster coming. Nothing but heresay. Could Buell's next engine be water-cooled? Maybe, but I hope not. The Sportster? Def. not.

And Ducxl - You act as if every HD produced was a flathead until the 1957 sportster. Harley was building OHV engines before Ford was.

Lucas, that is the XR1200, not the XL1200R. Check the tail, suspesion, swingarm, engine covers, etc.

It is not availible in the U.S. currently.

BTW DucXL, you have got me all wrong. I have nothing against water cooling, I just prefer it not to be on my motorcycle. I am not of the school of old tech being better, I am from the school of being simple is better. I am a minimalists when I am on 2-wheels and I have ridden water-cooled bikes, and the Japanese ones did little to inspire me. Sure they were fast as all hell, handled amazingly, but in the end, for me, they lacked the personality and character of my Buell.

My fear is not that Buell will come out with a water-cooled bike, my fear is that in the intrest of appealing to a larger audience, they will water down (no pun intended) what the Buell brand is and means to those of us who love it and its products.

In fact, we probably have closer goals than you think, we just disagree on how to get there.

Not a chance.I was raised in a motorcycle family that taught (wrongly) that Jap was crap. When i left the dirt behind an went road i got the Sporty.Excellent product.Over the years, and after obtaining my first Buell i knew i just had to have the Ducati(outstanding machine).I bought it as soon as the first XB was advertised as an act of dissatisfaction when Buell didn't debut a watercooled bike.Well a few years later i bought the XB12r anyways, too good of a machine.BUT...i still want an American manufactured watercooled machine.Have 'ya noticed yet where i call them MACHINES?? Because that's all they are to me.TOOLS for putting me down roads.I love 'em though regardless. Please let me say,"peace brother"

Hey Rocket...you out there? We ARE much alike, owning both Buells' AND Ducati Superbikes
.How about forming a club called "The Progressive Buell Riders for Watercooling"?
Too long?

Maybe,"Progressive Buell Riders" (PBR). Oh, wait, "PBR" is taken by "Professional Bull Riders",that won't work.Well,we'll sleep on it and post a name in the future.

And you don't consider that some, like myself, who bought brand new tubers in the 90's don't think that's already happened with the Blast and XB lines?

When I bought a Buell it was really something exotic. Especially with its minimalistic approach and its very high price. Your City X is as common as muck, and cheap in comparison. Frankly, I was singing your song at least 5 years ago. You can listen to it in the BadWeB archives. Eventually I got sick of asking for a world beating limited production 150mph tube frame Buell. Meanwhile the Italians brought us Ducati superbike powered Monsters. Benelli did the same and gave us the TNT's. Aprilia likewise with the Tuonos. MV again with the Brutales. Buell? Well they brought us the Blast. If that ain't watered down from the lofty heights of tube frame Streetfighters my arse is a sweet flavoured fruit.

Tell me Spiv, have you ever ridden a Ducati, or is that too much for your Buell principles to handle? One thing's for sure. If you had you'd be begging to own a Ducati alongside your Buell.

I have, a friend's Monster - beautiful bike. Just like a Ferrari, nothing sounds quite like the symphany eminating from the exhaust pipes on an Italian machine. However, just like the Ferrari, the Ducati is like a boat to me, better to have a friend that owns one and enjoy it from time to time than to own one yourself. Too expensive, more service intensive, I just wanna ride.

It is clear we disagree, as I feel the XB is an evolution of the Tubers, but really taking Erik & Co's ideas to the next level. But you know what, they still have a lot in common, namely a torquey oil-cooled V-twin and the design language.

I understand the point of the Blast, heck I learned to ride on a Blast, and you know what, it is a Blast! Kind of long in the tooth now, but still fun and a gateway in to the brand. How can you preech Buell should have another line of motorcycles, but then complain about the Blast? If anything, it sets a precedent for your exotic Buell superbike to be sold alongside the XB line. As I said before, I am in no way against a faster, more super Buell, as long as it is for the right reasons and does the right things for the brand.

My CityX may be pedestrian by your standards, but in the 6-months I have owned it, is has put a smile on my face more times than any other bike I have ever owned, including my 1250 Sportster and I have only seen 10-12 other Buells in the wild (not counting Buell gatherings, or bikes owned by my friends), and not ONE CityX, so to me, that makes it kind of exotic, and the way the people treat me and ask questions about it seem to reinforce that thought. It IS different and I am not on the same bike everyone else is, and you know what? I have seen more Ducati's on the road than Buells, does that make the BUell more exotic? Hmmmm.....

Now you can have a constructive conversation with me or you can keep flinging insults, it doesn't matter to me, I'll be more than happy to return my opinions in a constructive manner.

Riding the bendy and dirty on my CityX every damn chance I get. Running with the Uly's and making the sport bike guys just scratch their heads when I hit dirt at 40 and accelerate to 50 : D I always hear, you rode that where???!!!? Dude, you are crazy. Want a watercooled naked bike? try the triumph speed triple, you will be back to Buell shortly.

What is for sale in the US?

I doubt that Sportster, with the exhaust cans the size of Vermont, will ever see the light of day.

When I said Ducati I meant Superbike.

As for the Blast, I've not so much as bought a single Buell product since the Blast watered the product down. Not even a T shirt or pin badge.

I too understand the Blast. It's a cash cow. Cheap to produce, expensive in comparison to purchase.

Then we can talk about profit and how much of it Buell have. On the one hand they say HD won't cough up the funds for a full on XBRR race assault, and Buell can't afford to go it alone. Not three weeks after we debate these unfortunate circumstances surrounding Buells racing plight, Buell are telling us they're putting a million dollars up in contingency funds for what is essentially club racing. Wouldn't a million have supported a factory effort? Is Buell running scared knowing the XBRR will get trounced? I'd say so. The bull shit continues.

As for Ducati, there are those dumb enough to pay ridiculous service and repair bills, but there are those dumber that avoid what is one of the worlds greatest motorcycles because they believe those are the correct fees when they are not. Ducati ownership is special. It stems from a company that listens to its fans and gives them what they want. Buell is still tied to the mother-companies apron strings, but even if it were not I doubt things would be that much different.

Wouldn't a million have supported a factory effort?

Not even close. You're talking a Million$ commitment to spend money to compete in FX, v. a Million in contingency money. HUGE difference. I'd be shocked to find you can fully fund a team with the potential to win for that kind of money. Surely you're not that naive.

A Million bucks won't even cover a serious factory effort for a year. I contend they're spending their money better in supporting Club racers by dangling the POTENTIAL $1M out there v. spending maybe 2-3$M to run 2-3 bikes for the season - to compete AGAINST the other XB racers.
