From an engineering/show point of view the bike is interesting, but it has no practical performance advantage over a standard bike. Single sided swingarms are undoubtedly heavy and inefficient compared to double siders (ask Ducati & Honda), and there is no real advantage having twin rim discs. Some of the WSB teams tried the Braking twin rim mounted discs and preferred to stick with conventional brakes for a number of reasons. Does look nice though |

Best I can say is that ss-arm XB looks like someone took the stock swing arm out for whatever reason, and to keep the rear wheel out of their way they sat it under the bike whilst they worked on the swing arm. The whole bike does not flow. The middle looks too heavy and deep from the chin spoiler to the top of the tank. The front looks to busy around the wheel yet empty around the bars. The rear looks detached from every other part of the machine. The leftover section of the swing arm looks clumsy from the left side in front of the rear wheel. As for my own S1W. That's an old picture!

Ft, I know you were joking but more importantly, you get it. Subtle will do nicely. As I've explained before many times on BadWeB, the S1W is one of, if not the best looking streetfighter ever made. For me its only competition in looks is a Brutale, but the Buell stands out for its minimal approach as a motorcycle. With that in mind I never had and never will have any intention of spoiling what Erik Buell and his design team got so utterly right. I will only ever enhance what Buell did. I'll take boring any day though from LoneXB. After all I'd say his XB is as boring as my S1W. Funny how both our Buells could be viewed by others as having the same goal in mind. Is it possible if we parked them together the unsuspecting would think the same person built both bikes?
I think so. Yes definitely. This should do it Rocket |

Rocket and I rarely agree on anything... That being said, I can't help but compliment his ride. What LoneXB calls boring, I call a very classy rendition of a streetfighter. A bike meant to be ridden - clean, functional. No excessive farkle. From what I know of rocket, I bet it is well maintained, properly adjusted, and runs like a top. looks like every other s1 i have ever seen You say that like it's a bad thing... Otherwise I don't really have anything to add to the original thread. I don't see the point of dual rotors. Added unsprung weight for questionable advantage. Completely neutral about SSS. The guy's obviously done alot of work and put alot of thought into his bike, I'll credit him that. |

Ta Mister Mortar. No excessive farkle. Exactly. I really like Lone XB's XB. I'd say he has a similar eye to me in his ride. I'm not a fan of that fairing but it looks really good on on his XB. I'd junk the belt guard. Not sure I like the hollow swing arm or the angle it is shaped, but I'm sure it looks great in the flesh. but your version of enhance might be different than mine, or his or hers. Yes Bob, I absolutely agree. That said though, I like to think of myself as a connoisseur of style when it comes to motorcycles. Well, anything really come to it. Anyway, I welcome criticism of my S1W. Insults are cool, but compliments are so much nicer, and I appreciate them. Image if you were Erik Buell and you had to suffer the wrath of my criticisms about your motorcycles. We all have opinions, and that's what keeps us vibrant and searching striving for that next best thing. When it comes to motorcycles, keep the faith. Rocket |

All of these post factory creations are our children. Each is trying to create just the perfect bike for them. I might love or hate a bike, but I would never tell the owner that their bike looks like crap. That's just bad form. The black vs. orange debate is all in good fun. Etennuly and I love to trade barbs. In the end, though, we know where we should draw the line. Rocket does tend to push the envelope with his "opinion" mostly to get a rise out of folks. He carries a lot of his countrymen's angst about letting the "colonies" get away. It's understandable. In the words of one wise man:
"Can't we all just get along!" |

You want a cookie? Me too Dana. Oh and the only thing I know about tubers are that they are fugly as all get out and sometimes the shock or swingarm would sheer off and catapault the rider. (Message edited by buelltroll on January 27, 2007) |

I personally like what the guy has done to the XB. It opens the mind to many different idea's. The SS as far as I'm concerned the photos doesn't do justice. I'd have to see better pics. I bet it looks fine in person. To bad the owner doesn't pop in here. He'd get bombed with questions. |

if the guy that built that bike came on here, he would be told he was an idiot and he messed up what buell did, and that he ruined a good bike and that it was a waste of time..etc..etc..etc.. everything thats supposed to be done to buells was done at the factory..cant anyone understand that??? i love sarcasm. Yes I would throw it in the garbage. I don't care what kind of British junk it is. I'm not into old crap so it has no value to me. I'd probably get a fine in the mail for it being in my yard from the city as a eye sore to the community. And I know plenty about motorcycles... the ones I have chosen to learn about. |
