As I went to exit from the freeway last night on my 99 S3 and tried to slow down, the throttle wouldn't move. It got real interesting for a while, shifting down to third and riding the brakes, I took a sweeper ramp from one freeway to another at about 80 until I could safely get to the shoulder and hit the kill switch. This ever happen to anyone? |

Dfbutler There is a recall for the throttle cables. Plus you might want to lock wire the cables housing at the fuel injection end. This happened to my 99S3 in November, I had a frayed return cable. A couple of strands must have been cut during assemble and prevented the throttle from returning. Funny that is the primary purpose of the return cable. More government making you safer. Joe |

I've used this very explanation on a CHP motor officer! He didn't buy it for a second, though he did validate my attempt to get out of that speeding ticket by chuckling as he wrote it! Scary thing to have happen, Don - glad it came out OK! Have you done anything that would modify the routing on the cables? I had some minor throttle stickage on my RS which turned out to be caused by my altering the way they ran from the bars to the carb. AL |

There is a recall kit available to lock the throttle cables to the carb or TB. It's very cheap, less than $10. Get one and put it on!!! Sory, I can't remember the part number but I'm sure someone will chime in. Brad |

I've gotten about 8 notices since new.I've watched the cables closely over the years, and kept them taught against each other. They've grown a little frayed though. And my new cables are now waiting for pick-up.I wonder if they come with the cables clamp fix.Otherwise i'll lockwire them. |

This happened to me in my friend's GTO. We were just driving up rt. 611 and all of a sudden the care starts taking off like a rocket. I'm like giving him the evil eye and telling him he can stop showing off. He tells me he's not doing it. He didn't want to throw it in neutral because he was afraid to blow the motor, so somewhere around 110 we finally get the bright idea to turn the key off... Man those old buckets can go. |
