I just got an '06 XB12SS and was trying to do something with the front blinkers. The rear ones are shorter but the fronts look to just have extensions on them and be the same as the rear. I took them apart and found them to be the same, except that the hollow stud was longer. Does anyone know if i can buy just the stud, or if I need to get the rear turn signal kit. Also what is with the bulb socket between the two headlamps that has wires, but no bulb? Looks like it is for a 194 bulb. Has anyone else seen this, or is my bike the only goofy one? | ||

Oh, and does anyone have any ideas for mirrors other than bar ends. They make an adapter for the stud, just need to find something that doesn't look like Mickey Mouse! | ||

Regarding the turn signals, one option is to move the extensions inside the flyscreen area . There is a photo of it done on the boards, just use the search function. The only problem is that it may create vertical adjustment issues with the headlight because of the limited space behind the flyscreen. If this is an issue, installing rear signals may be a better option. | ||

The bulb socket is for a running light on the European models. A lot of people rig it to the lo-beam to keep it on when you engage the hi-beam. For mirrors, I've got a set of Mapam Aggressive on order... they look pretty cool, and one of our Italian friends say they work like a charm with little to no vibration. The cheap way: Front blinkers, I removed the flyscreen and headlights (not hard) and put the spacers on the inside and tightened the nuts down. This made it hard to fit the headlights back in correctly, and while it could be done, I took my dremel and cut off some of the extra on the length of the spacers. You'll see what I'm talkin about when you take them off. This allows you to fit everything back in w/o any problems. They look great afterwards. 194 bulb: this is a parking light for the Euro models. If you would like to ride with both lights on at the same time, in the headlight connector , there are 4 wires going in. Switch the wires so that the low beam is powered by the running light wire. This will leave the low beam on at all times like stock, but it won't cut out when you switch the high beam on. Pretty cool. Cheap mirrors: Cat eye bar end mirrors. I picked these up at a local bicycle shop for 8 bucks a piece. Dicks sporting goods also carries them I have heard. They are plastic, but I love them. Lowes sells plastic clips for Nissans in their parts bins, and the small ones fit perfectly into the stock mirror spot. They look great. | ||

Personally, I'd just swap the turn signals. They're only about $5 a piece last I checked (as in last I dropped a bike - doh!). Just be sure to get one left and one right since there's a small drain hole on the bottom that you wouldn't want at the top. | ||

Guys, thanks for the responses. Nutsnbolt, I've used the left arm theory, a bit hard at high speed when merging, kind of wants to blow you off the bike. (I know what your gonna say, whose looking at the front blinkers lol) I was going to try to cut down the tube and tap it. but the spacer idea on the inside is one I should have thought of, I thought about washers, but that's a lot of washers... duh!@. I would buy the rears, just a little impatient. Takes forever to get Buell parts you know. Swordsman, I saw those mirrors and thought about them in black. Thanks for the info, let me know how they work and I'll try them. | ||

Or for around 50 bucks I switched all my turn signals to LED's, from Shock Racing, on my '06 Long. The housing is half the size of stock, twice as bright and look much more pleasing than those big egg shaped stock signals. They were very easy to install, but do require cutting the factory wiring at each signal in order to reuse the factory bullet connectors. 4 butt connectors and 4 pieces of heat shrink tubing and back in business. Totally cleaned up the look of the bike. Just another option if you don't like how far out the front signals hang off the bike. | ||

easier way to fix them:take the stud out and cut off almost all the non threaded part...spin the nut til it stops on the non threaded piece the insert the threads back through the housing so just the threads are exposed in the original mounting holes, then spin on the stock turn signals(without spacers) until tight....putting the spacers inside is the silly way to do it...why take up space when you don't need to | ||

Hotdog271 take a look at Lonexb's thread above. Those are the exact LED turn signals that I've installed on my bike. Trust me, you won't be dissapointed, those babies are bright! Lonexb - compliments must be given! That picture of your bike on your profile looks tight as Hell!!! A job well done!!! | ||

I have an idea for something I would like to see in the way of turn signals. I saw this concept, the Tomahawk, at the Lone Star Rally in Galveston, TX. One of the cool things I liked about this bike was the bar end mounted turn signals. Does anyone in the aftermarket make anything like this? I think it would be sweet. See picture:  I know they would need to be a lot bigger and or brighter. Someone needs to put these into production!  | ||

Bo_sox/ LoneXB Those LED's do look tuff. I will keep them in mind. I was able to shorten the stem of the front ones for now. Thanks for the info. Yeags30, thanks for the info, that is about what I did. I cut the tube down then cut threads into the whole thing. worked great. | ||
