Need to reduce seat height, even with the low seat another 3/4 - 1".

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Tom, recieved your E-mail and do have a solution. I did send you my answer and hope you'll be satisfied with my proposal. However you will need a special fork and fork spring kit if it should work, but don't worry I guess we got what you need.

If you have any questions after reading my mail, feel free to ask.

Greetings
Dirk

I am really interested in buying a uly but even with the lower seat option, I cant get both feet on the ground. Is there something I can do to lower the suspension without hampering the performance?

Dirk,
Please post solutions to questions here on the board. Others may have the same question.

Paul,
Dirk apparently knows a solution.

Have you tried backing off the preload front and rear to lower the bike some? If you are not too heavy, that may be a viable solution. The risk in that is that you might be more likely to bottom out or have to set compression damping higher than optimum to keep from doing so.

Also, have you tried the 2007 low model? It is lower yet than the 2006 version.

The only other solution I can imagine would involve significant reworking and/or replacement of the suspension components. This would reduce total suspension travel while increasing spring rate and damping rate, basically using what would amount to a Lightning Long suspension.

Dirk,
I would also be interested in the suspension mods. Thanks

Blake,
Is the 07 Uly lower because of the seat or did Buell make mechanical changes? If I could get an 07 Uly and install a lower seat to get it below the list 31.8" I would be interested in buying one to replace my 06 F650GS dual sport.

Edit: I just talked to Daves and it appears that the 07 Uly comes with the lower seat so that idea is out the window.

Sorry guys that I was absent so long... It was quite a busy time here in Germany!

So, our possibility is to lower the XB 12 Uly by shortening the shock absorber itself. For the Uly we are able to decrease ride height for as much as 45 mm (1.77 inches). As your bike will be lower, you will lose some lean angle capacity but you will profit form the custom made high-quality suspension. We did experiment with the bike, however more than 45 mm were inpracticable.
You should also know that, the more you lower it, the more ground clearance (of course) and comfort you'll miss. So just lower it the amount you really need!

We do offer two fitting shocks that might be shortened this way, one without and one with compression reservoir.
In some cases it is advisable to also purchase a new set of fork springs due to the bikes geometry.

At Wilbers, those modification are without extra charge. Take a look at the shocks on our hompage if you like (www.wilbers.de/usa), or contact me directly (kontaktusa@wilbers.de) for a personal inquiry.

Again, sorry that it took me sooo long to answer, but maybe I still can be of service.

Ride safe!
Dirk

Test ride the new TT, it is supposed to be the same height as the CityX, and if you put the low touring seat from the XB12SS on it, it should bring you two inches lower than the ULY. Of course a Low profile Gel coat custom seat will allow you to keep the ULY and all of its ground clearance and still sit lower.
