Picked them up this past weekend and I don't remember which end of a telescopic assembly the tighter winds of the progressive spring go... Also, is HD-E fork oil good enough, that's what I bought. Help? |

Install them with the heavier side of the spring up, or opposite the axle. or split the difference and put one up and one down... Either way I doubt you can tell the difference. |

Hey Teeps, one up, one down. That's an idea! Reminds me of BMW's K75S with the springing in one leg and the damping in the other. That one really got my imagination going back then, man what kind of torsional stresses were going to be placed on that front wheel with each fork doing its own thing... I've relaxed a lot since then. Since there has to be a point along the length of the spring where it becomes unsprung weight your suggestion seems logical, to put the mass up top. And you're right, there's probably no way I could tell the difference. Inverted forks are new to me though so I did't want to create a binding situation upon installation, or while in operation. |

I don't think it really matters on these type of springs where they have the same diameter throughout. I believe that the softer part, where the springs are closer and there is more mass, should actually be down towards the axle though. That is the way I was planning on installing mine. |

"Unsprung" weight: less is best. Jmhinkle, You're right, the spring doesn't care which way it is installed. And I'm guessing that in a blind test that no one on this board would be able to tell which way the springs are installed. |

Thanks for the input guys. I'm still confused though... I remember from progressive spring installs on past bikes that the instructions specifically stated an end of the fork or shock that the tighter wind needed to be at, I just don't remember which end. Anybody with an '07 svc manual? |

Xman- Call Josh at Santa FeHD/Buell, 505-471-3808, use me as a reference and ask him. We asked Buell, they called Showa and there is a correct orientation- I just don't remember-(doh-crs disease!)I'll be back there tomorrow afternoon of you can't get in touch with him. Murrae |

Tighter end/progressive wind at the bottom. I like them on mine. Happy New Year to all. Murrae |

X Bimmer or Murraebueller, Please post your comments on improvements with the new springs. Thanks! |

Mostly less and more controlled front dive under initial hard braking and more sensitivity when trail braking. With the Scorpions it ends up being astoundingly accurate all of the time. The next project is to see how the Pirelli MT60Rs work on the bike. Happy New Year. Murrae |

So Murrae, the tighter-wound end of the spring is the first-compressed as Jmhinkle stated? Thanks for the info. I'm already totally converted to the Syncs, with several hundred miles on my new ones I'm completely happy. If the '07 spring change enhances their performance as you say that'll be icing on the cake! Someone here posted the suspension settings chart from the '07 s/m, comparing it with my '06 s/m I noticed rear shock settings altered also. Have you adjusted the rear to '07 spec also? Happy New Year to you too! |

I'll have to check- I always set my preload for myself with full riding gear plus luggage- I weigh myself dressed and hold the luggage. I also tend to run my compression a little soft and my rebound a little hard from recommended for the roads here. They're nice and curvy and generally chip seal with ripples. I tend to prefer a little front bias due to my somewhat "aggressive" riding style. I also run full soft in the dirt with normal preload. Murrae |
