I'm interested in shedding some weight off my S3. I noticed that the front fairing supports, brackets and rear seat supports are all made of steel. Does anyone know if anyone makes these in aluminum? Besides changing the fenders to CF, what other weight savings mods can be done? |

I don't think any of those parts are available currently in aluminum. If you build a set, make 2 of everything. CF Wheels would shave a lot. S1 tail? Ditch the battery? Custom exhaust with lightweight muffler, or no muffler at all... Aluminum fuel cell? |

Actually, the X1 tank set-up is a little lighter, but not much more than the S3. S1 tail, changing the supports to aluminium would be great. Get rid of, the fiberglass body parts, but, short of that, have someone make them in Carbon.... Force Exhaust Or a D&D full exhaust(I am told that is several ;pounds lighter, besides, love mine)... I dont know about the fairing supports.. I am sure I could build them easily...but, I dont have any, or a S3 around me... Chase |

magnesium Dymags are way cheaper than CF, i have a set and they are extremely light, haven't installed them on the bike yet, still new in the box! i got them for a steal on ebay 2 years ago from a parts house, clearing inventory!! my best buy ever!!! click on images for full size. |

the only time they were out of the box was for that pic, they went right back in, with the foam around the lip and wrapped up nice...either will wait until they are like gold or i decide to mount them on one of my bikes! i got the pair for under 500.00 shipped!! |

Why not use them? Within minutes of taking my Dymags out of the box I was swapping pulley and discs. I'd bet you'd be surprised how light CF is against the Mag's. If you held one of each in your hands you'd know what I mean. The numbers don't tell the whole story. Jim, I thought you'd got your wheel issue sorted? Can you refresh my memory with info and pic's and I'll look over here for a match. Rocket |

i want to use them, i haven't finished rebuilding the thunderbolt yet, which is the bike i planned on putting them on. now i think they would look great on the S1W, or someone might want them bad enough to make an offer i couldn't refuse. as far as their weight versus CF, no question, i have held a few CF wheels and they are amazing, but at twice the price of Mag....doesn't seem like enough bang for the buck. |

The Carbon body parts vs. stock plastic weight savings can't be that much. When I replaced the front fender on my M2 (for a different COLOR) even the stock one is practically weightless. There's not much savings to be had there. I'd negate any potential savings by carrying a padlock. Wheels and steels are the place to find the savings. |

The difference in weight between a stock Buell plastic fender and a carbon fiber offering is sensational. The CF one is damn near light as a feather. Sleez, there are ways to get CF wheels cheaper, like budget racers do. Not all CF wheels come out perfect, but they are still usable. Mine are the proof. Rocket |

I just went direct to Dymag and asked for seconds. Then we spent a week debating the price! Great company director though. He helped me. Did me a favour big time. Rocket |

Sean, never found a rear to fit the Buell. The ones I had were fro a Duc--sold them off. I need a rear 5 spoke gold colored Marchesini. Looks like this, but Buell wheels don't have rubber dampers http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-Marchesini-Honda-Rear-Wheel-5-Spoke-CBR-600-929-954_W0QQitemZ280058407471QQihZ018QQcategoryZ35624QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Here is a poor shot of it.

Jim, I assume you're familiar with 916 wheel.
Without checking I'm pretty sure my Marchesini is the same as in the pic. So, can't the hub from a single side arm be adapted to fit? Rocket |

Jim, you are talking about the cush-drive? I am sure someone makes a solid drive.. I know there are solid hubs for other bikes... The sporket hub on some, fits neatly into the wheel hub...no cush drive. IF you are running chain, you can go ahead and run the cush-drive... Chase |

No chain. Sean those are the same style, but SSSA wheels much different. I would rather just find/buy the proper wheel than adapt a one off thing. |

Jim, I know I have a couple of those SSSA rims at the shop..but that doesnt help ya.. I am sure I can find a regular wheel..but, we may have to machine an adapter for the pully... I have never seen the 5 spoke rim for a buell...(which doesnt mean anything)... If there is anything I can do to help, lemme know, though I am sure you have your own hook-ups out there... Chase |
