Hey Everyone, sorry working on F*& computers all day long... I guess we need a kv topic "differentiating semi-toxic fluids by taste/smell" The winner is ..... the brake line. I just put in new EBC 249HH pads up front and was using the rear brake a lot while I get the front broken in ( breaking in a brake?????) Anyways I rode about 75 miles today, no rear brake use, no leaking. I haven't found the leak yet, but its headed into the shop on Monday to check the shock, guess I'll keep them a little busier than planned. Thanks for all the help, this board is a big chunk of the fun of owning a buell Now what cleans brake fluid off the swingarm..... | ||

Matt, If you are basing your conclusion on not seeing any further leakage merely because you didn't use your rear break, you may be jumping to a wrong conclusion. There is one very easy way to determine if your problem/mess is caused by the rear brake. Go out to your bike, stomp on the rear brake pedal. If fluid shoots out, you found the problem. If it doesn't and if the brake pedal action feels normal, your problem is most likely tranny lubricant related. Did you read my lengthy post above? Aside from Dyna's experience, I've never heard of a brake fluid leak producing the mess that you experienced. And if brake fluid did leak so excessively, you would immediately notice a complete lack of rear brake... no pressure, no braking, the pedal would go completely soft and bottom out. | ||

Blake, when my line developed a hole it didnt lose the fluid real fast but it did make a hell of a mess. It takes very little fluid to create such a mess. I was on a poker run the day it happened & I still had a rear brake for the rest of the day, but it was slowly getting worse as the day went on. Only takes a small pinhole to produce such a leak, over even a loose clamp that only allows fluid to leak out if you are on the rear brake & the swingarm happens to be bouncing at the same time. Im assuming matt checked his resovoir. | ||

Blake, Sorry, I was way to tired to post. The rear brake reservoir is near empty. The tranny fluid is at normal levels, color and taste (ask me how I know). Oil level is also right where it was. I did read your post, felt like I was back i thermodynamics, (now what is the enthaply of sport tran at 16 psi and 100 degress C?). Anyways, the low level of brake fluid is what I'm going by, also the large amount of fluid near the brake switch junction/swingarm. When I get home, I'll fill her up and make a mess. My wife loves when I decorate the garage floor! Thanks again for all the help Matt | ||

Eastern Avenue Las Vegas, NV, USA 89109 http://www.lvhd.com/homea.htm Or would you just hit the buffet lines and stay on the main(new) strip? Gonna have a couple of hours to wander and was thinking of stopping in for a chuckle. Geez, I just hit their web site and it looks like they have outposts in several of the casinos as well. Guess I'll just wander and hope I don't wind up in the belt buckle garden out in the desert. | ||

MikeJ, the main location for Las Vegas HD/Buell is at 2605 S. Eastern. It is also a Ducati dealership. They are primarily (80%?) HD products, with perhaps 10% Ducati and 5% Buell. Pretty large facility. They have lots of HD accessories, not much Buell or Ducati stuff. They used to have an HD Factory Outlet store down in the Factory Outlet mall in Primm/Stateline. That place had all manner of HD clothing at substantial discounts. Not sure if it's still there. | ||

MikeJ, depends on where you're staying... It's a bit of a hike from a strip hotel to their main location and back. LV HD does offer a shuttle bus service - not sure about cost or how often it goes around. Give 'em a call... It is a nice dealership but it's mostly HD stuff so don't get your Buell hopes up... | ||

Thanks. Not sure where we're staying yet, I didn't make the reservations so I wasn't too concerned as long as the sheets don't move on their own. There is also a fairly major boxing match in town one day and a kickboxing match the next so there might be just a few attitudes walking around town as well. Many of the hotels were filling up as were the airlines due to these events. I just want to get out of the casino noise occaisionally so am looking for alternative things to do while everyone else spends their nickels and quarters. I might have to sit down at a blackjack table for awhile, but when the $20 is gone so am I.  Also looks like I'll miss a Buell demo day by a week. Bummer. I wonder how big the ticket is for wheelieing an XB down the boulevard????? I've just hit mapquest and am putting together a map sheet showing the locations. Should be an interesting weekend regardless. | ||

Tbolt, I've been down to the bottom inside of Grand Coulee dam, clear down to where there's just metal grates and mud below your feet. After that all dams are just concrete with a river on one side and a lake on the other. The one on the Snake river in Washington is interesting though since there is a swimming beach right near the base of it mostly frequented by college kids from WSU and UI. Besides, after taking three classes this semester I'm not about to volunteer for any tests. But thanks for the input. Hoover and the Grand Canyon are on the agenda for a driving trip one day, maybe next summer. | ||

I thought the tour of Hoover dam was boring. They dont have the hardhat tour anymore either. Mike, you have to take the wife to the top of the stratosphere & ride the big shot. That thing is a major trip. 1000' up & then it shoots you up another 100-150'. | ||

I liked Hoover but really wish I could take the hard hat tour. GC is a hell of a drive after a long night of gambling. Josh (my college roommate often did work for his dad painting lock-and-dams all over the US. Way cool stories about walking inside turbines deep inside a concrete mountain.) |
