The headlight of my XB12Ss burned out this morning. I call my local dealer (Harley Davidson/Buell of Nassau County) and they don't have the bulbs in stock. WTF?? How can you not stock headlight bulbs?? Is this a common bulb I might be able to find in an Auto Parts store or something? Anybody know? |

I was able to find one at Napa...can't remember the type designator but that bulb is still working 4 months later with no problem. |

It is a sad commentary that the dealer didn't have ANY! Surely even HD's use H7 bulbs? The parts guy probably heard "Buell" and reverted to the automatic response of "nope, we don't have any parts for those" without bothering to check. |

Sparkplugs! That's what you get for not asking for the Chrome plated plugs. |

You know what? I THINK my K1200LT uses H7 bulbs... if that's the case, I can probably get them at my (former) BMW dealer! |

I went to a HD dealer for my last plugs. The regular guy behind the counter was clueless, but a kid from service was walking by and told him the number to cross reference for the standard Harley plugs. They didn't have any Buell numbers. (Killer Creek in Alpharetta). Most parts stores have everything you need, including spark plugs, lights, fuses, batteries. |

I just looked at the directions for changing the headlight bulb. What a PITA! Sheesh, I don't even need tools to replace the headlight in the Beemer. Erik, work on this with any future designs, huh? |

Dude, if you only knew. To change the headlight bulbs on my VFR800, you need to remove the whole front cowling along with the headlights so you can access the back of the headlight bulb ports. Each bike is different. Some bikes are just easier than others. It's not like headlight bulbs is something you change on a regular basis. Where is the battery located on your BMW? |

Battery on my K1200LT is right under the saddle. There are rubber cups on the S, but in order to get them off, you have to remove the headlight assembly!! |

In the spirit of full disclosure: I went to the dealership today to have them check the light (in case it wasn't the bulb). I learned that the bulb was actually covered under the original 2 year warranty! Unfortunately, as I stated earlier, they don't have the bulbs in stock. If I didn't mind leaving the bike there, it wouldn't have cost me a thing. However, getting the bike back was more important than saving money so I went next door to the Auto Zone and bought a replacement H7 bulb there. The dealership then installed the bulb for me and didn't charge me for anything. I'm quite happy and therefore I'm removing my prior "black mark" against them (though I still think they ought to have bulbs in stock). A bonus: There's no record of this service, so if the bulb should burn out again before September 2007, I'm still covered... |

Well, at least you have a pretty up front dealership. Mine would have just gave me a scowl for not waiting for me purchase his "Harley Davidson" light bulb. I guess the dealerships do what they can. They aren't all that bad. They are just trying to survive, and keeping 4 lighbulbs in stock might be the deciding factor in whether they go in the red or stay in the black..... Correction. Make that Orange not Red. You get the point, though. I understand not having accessory parts. And I mean Accessory, by the very definition of the word. Like Chrome Foot guard bolts. But, operating parts? Like Lightbulbs and sparkplugs? Come on. That's ridiculous. Mark |

wE AR THE RED-HEADED STEPCHILDREN OF hd DEALERSHIPS sorry bout the cap lock. Anyway, if it ain't chrome my guy can't be bothered!!! he just opened a Ducati/BMW/Triumph dealership - I wish he'd move Buell in with them!!!!! Maybe time to trade - this is my second buell but I am really sick of having no support. My old S3 ran better and was trouble free for 25k and I can't get my brand new ULY to run right (2 trips - same answers). Actually I don't think they even looked at it either time. Just said it was fine both times - both times all problems remained. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!! |

"They're the same plugs that the Vrods use! Are they maintaining that they don't have Vrod plugs too? Liars! (or extremely stooooopid!)" I don't know if they were lying. This is the same dealership that has never once correctly ordered any parts for my 2000 M2... nothing. I got so fed up, I started asking for SPORTSTER parts and they still got it wrong. I only go there for filters now... nothing else. I'd rather order the stuff from Al or Daves because it's quicker than ordering them from the dealer and then having to re-order them. I'm for damn sure never ordering spark plugs from them. They have 5 different kinds of leather cleaner, but no 10R12 spark plugs. |

"They have 5 different kinds of leather cleaner, but no 10R12 spark plugs." HOLY CRAP that's funny, and yet so sad! At what point did H-D go from being a rugged American icon to a bunch of chrome-bunny posers??? ~SM |
