I feel your pain Fresno. I'm even shorter but with really short legs. I could barely touch the ground on my xb9r. After going thru the forums here I called and ordered the lowering kit for my buell, this dropped it almost 1 1/2" which now I am firmly tip-toed. Still a pain in the arse to back up though. I might have to try a different seat that everyone is talking about. Another 2" should get me darn near flatfooted....Sweet.. Also with my weight (160lbs) I don't have any trouble on my 9r going over speed bumps (on two wheels). Good luck. |

This would be pertinant information to know for us trying to answer questions and give advice. Also, filling out your profile to give the basics can be very helpfull also. |

And also, I was more curious about why the bike was designed with the high seat. I am resigned that my height and the CityX height are not changing any time soon, but I DO appreciate all the advice. |

Irideabuell: "I'm 5'6" and have a 2004 Lightning with the select seat. I don't have any problem with the seat height." I can barely flat foot my bike with the same setup... and I am 5'11... so either you have very long legs or you are full of it not being able to flat foot isn't a big deal until you end up in gravel and can't control the bike and tip over. |

Gravel is exactly why I opted for a 12Scg. I was first shopping around for a 9R which I can only get the balls of the feet on the ground on level ground. I would have been fine & happy with that if not for a few sketchy roads & inclines. So I went with a 12Scg which was really low until I got the Select seat. Now she's just right. On level ground I'm flat footed with a slight bend in my knees. For the record I'm 5'7 barefoot with an inseam somewhere in the 31"-32" vicinity. I wear pants with at least a 32" inseam to avoid the flood pant look while sitting on my bike. (If not for a short trunk & a short neck & a pinhead, I'm sure I coulda been 5'9 ) I suppose one could always take his or her seat to a seat maker & have the sides shaved a bit to gain more leg reach if needed. It would probably be more comfortable than the stock cg seat which feels almost but not quite like a board after a 100 miles or so. |

I see that a person's height is not the critical measurement, rather their inseam. Although I am 6' tall, I only have a 29" inseam. I have the standard XB9S with a Select seat, I wouldn't want a bike any taller at the seat. |

Correct, inseam is the key here. Mine is 30" & I agree that someone who is 5 6 would have a tough time flat-footing, unless he has a very wierd proportion torso/leg. |

I never stated I could reach the ground flat-footed on my Lightning if you read carefully. I only said I didn't have a problem with the seat height. At 5'6" there aren't many bikes made (except my 7 year old son's Suzuki JR50) that I would be able to flat foot any way. I have very short legs (29 inch inseam) and find my bike to be of a comfortable height or I wouldn't have purchased it. EARWIG, I wasn't aware that being able to reach the ground flat-footed on a gravel road meant you wouldn't dump your bike. I think there are far too many other variables involved in dumping your ride when it presents itself. If what I've said is wrong, I guess I am full of it . |

I'm a little curious as to where your thoughts on Buells having high seat heights comes from? The fact that the seat heights were lower than most other sportbikes was one of the major deciding factors in the purchase of mine. 07 GSXR1000: 31.9" 07 ZZR600: 32.3" 07 CBR1000: 32.3" 07 YZF-R1: 32.9" 07 XB12Scg: 28.6" 07 XB12S: 30.1" 07 XB9SX: 31.4" Buell's highest seat height (9SX) is lower than the lowest of the four major rice burners (didn't include the Uly because we're talking about sportbikes here). |

seat SHAPE is also a critical factor, as is the balance of the bike in question. EG: An SV 650 is supposedly lower than the lightnings, but because of where the seat hits the riders leg, it requires about the same inseam as the cityx. The weight on the SV also sits higher, so even basic stuff like standing beside the bike and backing up is harder for a short rider. FWIW: 5'4" , and I ride an '06 CityX with the low seat....knowing how hard it is for me, I'd guess anyone shorter than I am is best off on a blast? ( Hate to say it - anyone on here under 5'4"??) |

I respect your figures, however I have have a riding buddy who has a 'Busa and the reported seat height is 31.7, which is higher than the CityX. However, I can flat-foot on his Busa, so what gives? THe Busa seat tapers a bit to the front, so MAYBE that explains it. But I am convinced that the CityX has a higher EFFECTIVE seat height than the Jap bikes. |

Yeah I'd have to agree with Tx05xb12s that XB's have a lower seat height than most. First thing people used to say sitting on my bike was 'gee you sit low'. I changed my seat to the City-X version after reviews here praised its seat for offering some much needed leg room and butt comfort and could not be happier since installation. |

Hmmm....that's funny because anyone that sits on my CityX says the opposite--"this seat is really high". Oh well, this has been covered in other posts apparently & I really don't want to start an argument. I feel how I feel and the people who diagree obviously feel differently. In the end, nothing that we say or type will change reality. |

I put the Scg seat on my City X, it made all the difference in the world, that and clicking the shock to the lowest setting. 5-6 with a damn 29 inch inseam, I blame my parents. And if the upload button worked I would post a pic, but seems that it has failed to cooperate for me tonight |
