Paul - I believe the Blast weighs 360 lb dry. Your wife exactly the kind of person the bike was designed for. Here are 2 pictures of a friend of mine with her Blast. She is very short, I'd guess 5'0":   She has changed out the bars for a better fit and a more tucked in riding position. I don't think she has any problems picking the bike up by herself. As to the class, it is the best thing you could ever do for her. Even if she doesn't end up on a Blast, the Riders Edge class is excellent. And it will give her 2 days of riding time on the bike, so she will know if she can handle it by the time she is done. I believe that HD dealerships will give you store credit for the cost of the class if you buy a bike from them. - Jim | ||

Hello, I just heard about this forum from a friend and thought I'd register and check it out. I currently have a Kawasaki EX250. My wife has recently started riding 2-up with me, and has caused me to get the buying bug again, so I've been looking at Buell for my next bike. The XB9SX is the perfect bike for me, and I can't wait until I can finally get one. Until then, I'm hoping to learn more about it and the brand by visiting this site. -Heath | ||

That is my wife with the red blast there and she is only 5 foot even. She could pick it up if she had to, but I am sure she woudl struggle alittle. wth teh normal seat she still is not as sure footed as she would like but the comfort over the low seat is what she likes. She has put on clip on bars to bring the bar and riding position down. | ||

Hi FOlks, New to this forum. In a moment of weakness, my wife and I bought 2 Buells on eBay last week. A 99 ST3 for me and a 00 Blast for her. Never been on HD BUell before, but I have owned lots of bikes. Wife is getting her lisence in two weeks, my life insurance is paid up in full. Im in Ontario, Canada and imported the bikes from the US. Look forward to all the info that you can share. Blakers | ||

Hey Blakers, As a part time Canuck,Lemme welcome ya, even though I'm mostly a lurker here  Been to Orrilia one time.Friend owns a house right next to the reserve.He owns the French River golf course right now.We've got a camp on the French.Haven't had the courage to make the 500 mile trip on the bike but almost had the whole BRAG gang run up there a few years ago during the sportbike meet up in Parry Sound.The 400's turning onto a beaut of a ride.Can't say that 'bout the 69 though.It'd be nice if the cagers and transports weren't the craziest bunch.Next trip up's the weekend before Halloween.Cage of course.Wife hates bikes.Locals always have a great Halloween party!If the weather holds then your welcome to take a run up for the festivities and stay over.Plenty of room.Maybe your wife can talk some Buell sense into mine,eh? Hello everybody, I Am getting very frustrated trying to get information for my 99 s3t. All the web sights are not what they say they are. I need to know what hell I can do to regain the perfomance of my bike. I changsd the muffler to a supertrapp, and I also removed the breadbox air cleaner , and changed to a forcewinder style intake. Its home made And yes I installed the ITS. Its running lean. What the next step? | ||

Hi guys, I come from Italy and I've just arrived in Miami. I left my bike at home but I will buy a buell soon and I will join you guys for some rides. On saturday I went to the Buell demo in Miami and I met Drummer Boy and Torq. I had lots of fun with them and so I want to say "hi" and "thank you" because now I can share my motorcycle passion(it's actually a disease) with someone. hi henrik,the paint on the frame/swingarm and tankcover are done by myself...the short subframe is made by www.dbbp.com the seat(not on th picture is made by www.joeynashoriginals.com..and the shocker is made by myself,www.ast-suspension.com also the adrenalin moto is racing with a shockabsorber that i've made... | ||

Bought a '05 XB9SX in July. It cost me $17,000. That includes the cost of my wife's '06 Sportster 1200L. She doesn't like to ride on the back. It's been worth every penny. The original owner told me about this web site and now I check in every day. With 37 years of riding time I probibly can contribute a little. During '76 - '79 I used to place in the top 5 on the Sunday Morning Ride. 1st when Infinion (then Sears Point) was racing. All on a lightly mod. '75 RD350. This is a great site and I love my Buell. I'm going to find the account sign-in site now. | ||

Figured I'd say hi. I've been lurking for a while now and am trying to get a feel for this place and Buells. I took up riding with an EX250 2 summers ago. Bought a new FLHTI last summer and a new XL883L for the wife this year. It just might be a little while before I have a chance to buy my Buell - to replace the EX250 as my commuter/bad weather bike. In the mean time I'll be here trying to decide which Buell is the one for me. | ||

Hi from England. I could do with a bit of help folks. I have just bought a 2006 XB12s privately (in the uk). When I got it it had 1000, miles on the clock. My local (unoffical) harley guy who is a mate of mine serviced it up, and fitted a new filter and Motrex SEMI SYNTHETIC oil, designed for Harleys. I then rode it right through europe to our holiday home in Valencia Spain. That is a run of 2,000 miles. It did not miss a beat. Then I changed the oil and filter again to syn3 bought from the Valencia Harley dealer. It is very hot here in Spain, and what worries me is that the bike is pretty damn noisy mechanically when it is hot. I mean rocker noise, and what sounds like follower noise. The bike goes very well, does not use any oil, in fact seems faultless regarding performance, it just sounds like a couple of skeletons having a punch up in a dustbin. It does not sound terminal, but to be honest it sounds more like 1936 than 2006. I love it to death, but am scared that I have already shagged it out. To be honest I ride very steadily and the bike has never been over 100 mph. I´m not much of a speed hero really, so I have not abused it. It seems much more noisy with the syn3 oil, so what oil should I use bearing in mind where I live, and are XBs noisy old buggers generally, or is mine saying adios amigo? Cheers lads, Nigel | ||

You have yourself a typical noisy air-cooled pushrod engine. The cacophony of noise is the engine telling you that it is working and that with added heat comes increased temperature, decreased oi viscosity and increased clearances between the gears driving the cams and other such things. However, if you have not done so yet, you will want to check and adjust your primary drive chain tension, doing so is one of the important initial 1000 miles service items. When loose the chain can make a racket. The primary drive chain will loosen significantly in the initial wear-in period as it wears itself nice conforming grooves into the rub block. Be sure to adjust it on the loose side of the specification (1/2" (13mm) total free play up and down for a cold engine) and be sure to do so at the tightest position as the chain travels around the sprockets. Here's a link to the procedure from the old online manual. See page 1-22. The same basic procedure applies to the current models. If anything adjust on the loose side of the loosest spec. Hi and ok. Sounds like I have a normal one then. When it is cold is is lovely and quiet mechanically...but after a run the internal swordfight starts. I will just have to get used to it and buy some earplugs to stop me worrying! I will send some photos in but not untill I get back to the uk as my digi camera is still there at home. I will make a couple of observations already though, cruising at 75 is fun, but trying to sustain 85 is verging on uncomfortably windy. The bike can do it, but the body has to yield. During the trip over, it rained once in France....and I left a rooster tail of spray behind me (and all over me) like a bloody speed boat. That means dear fellow Buellites, that we own motorcycles that are about as practical as paper umbrellas...BUT...What what a quirky,fun oddball it is! Another thing is that I am only 5 feet tall and disabled in my right leg from a bike accident when I was young and foolish (I´m old and foolish now!!) , so my XB is modified. It has a HAGON shock fitted which dropped the bike 2", and the seat has been scooped, gaining me another another 2". Also the R. footrest and brake are much further forward thanks to a really nice engineering job. it now fits me like a glove and proves that all you vertically challenged jockeys out there do not need to hunt down a SG model (only released 3 weeks ago in europe) but can easily lower a standard model. Thats it for now. Does anybody have any ideas about an oil that will make my bike a bit quieter? regards Nigel | ||

An aftermarket exhaust will make the mechanical noise less noticeable. Check with Trojan-Horse or Hillbilly-Motors for their recommendations. | ||

I've heard roller rockers quiet things down.Dunno myself.Pricey,they are.The exhaust can,like Blake said,does wonders;'cept for maybe a complaint or two from neighbors.They'll get used to it |
