Preface: Since I dont not know where my concern (this thread) lies within the "screening topics/ sections" KV I am posting this thread here were it shouldnt be. I have no problem with this being moved to the correct area, just let me know so I can find it later. Here goes: I noticed the low beam (left side) headlight is a little loose so my beam bounces a bit. Is this normal? I looked at it and saw that there are two gold colored screws which I am assuming are for beam adjustment purposes therefore I didnt touch them. Are there any other fastners that could be loose? Second, my engine at idle seems to be dancing around the 1K mark just a bit out of ordinary. I put fresh tank of gas (poss. water in tank) and problem persists. It is more noticable upon cold start up but is intermittent when at normal temp. Any ideas on one or both concerns are appreciated. ADAM | ||

The idle dancing around a bit is normal, the loose headlight is not. | ||

There are 4 screws which secure the high beam assembly into the headlight bracket, check those for security. Otherwise check the two bolts that hold the bracket in place. One may have fallen out of its groove somehow. Also make sure the 2 clips behind the boot have the bulb secured properly. | ||

If the low beam headlight housing is not loose in its mount and the beam is still bouncing around a bit, it might be the "spoon", the part that cuts-off the beam for oncoming drivers, inside the reflector moving around. Mine was loose from the get-go. The result was that the cutoff edge of the beam bounced up and down slightly and caused the weirdest purple/blue effects to be seen when looking directly at the bike. The effect was so attention-grabbing that a local cop pulled me over wanting to know 1) why one of the headlights is out and 2) was I trying to flash to get his attention. So, if your headlight is otherwise secure and nothing is loose externally, you would have to remove the headlight and take it apart to get at the spoon to tighten its screw. But whatever you do, don't touch the silver reflector coating. It's very thin and easily damaged. Don't ask me how I know this.  Sparky | ||

thanks for the answers, it is the housing thats loose. Ill have to adjust them tomorrow when its light out. I appreciate the answers. |
