The stock seat on my Long seams pretty comfortable but I see Buell is offering a Touring and a Sport replacement. The touring seat is supposed to lower the seat height which might be good for me. Has anyone tried either of these seats on a Long? | ||

Hi-- Bob's wife Sarah here... I have tried the Long tour seat. It is very comfortable for riding BUT it did not get me closer to the ground. The seat may be "lower" at the highest point but the foam is firmer and the front of the seat, where most of us are when we stop and put our feet down, is not lower. I could actually get less of my foot on the ground with the tour seat than with the stock seat (because the soft foam on the stock seat compresses more easily). The tour seat may feel hard to some people if you're not used to firm foam. I am getting my stock seat redone at Sargent's of Jacksonville FL. I hope this helps. Good luck with your quest. | ||

I have the Sport saddle - with the Orange to match the Sunbust Orange on my bike. It looks great - but you sit higher, and the foam is firmer. It allows you to shift weight easier, and is definitely better for hanging off - but is not more comfortable, IMO. Comes down to a matter of inseam and preference... I think that the price is very fair for the quality of the seat. The stock saddle on the long is one of the best OEM saddles that I have used. It will go back on when I tour. Jack | ||

I have the touring seat on my SS and really like it. As stated earlier it did not get me any closer to the ground bur made for a comfortable ride. | ||

Oddly enough, I do find the Sport Saddle more comfortable than stock for extended rides. By raising me up a bit, my knees aren't as "kinked up" as they are with the stock seat, resulting in a more "relaxed" seating position. The downside is a little more weight on my hands, but not enough to make it uncomfortable at slow speeds. I can't flatfoot the bike with the sport saddle, but as I've pointed out... that isn't an issue with me. 98% of the time my feet are on the pegs, not the ground. I'd rather be more comfortable in the position I'm in 98% of the time, rather than in just 2% of the time. By keeping my right foot on the brake I can get my left foot SOLIDLY down at stops and that is actually a more secure position to be in (especially when stopped on a hill). Firm saddles are actually more comfortable for longer periods of time than soft saddles; you just have to train your butt, that's all. The fact that it's easier to slide around on the sport saddle also improves long-range comfort, rather than getting yourself locked into a single position. The touring saddle looks like it would be better for carrying a passenger. The sport saddle is fine for the short hops I carry my passenger; I use the K1200LT for longer trips. If the XB12Ss were my only bike though, I'd probably look into the touring saddle. |
