Well Leaving work today, and on my way to the dragstrip I got rearended. Literlly 100ft from my work, by a fellow employee no less. Luckly I was already at a stop. He did lock up his brakes tho. If I were to guess I think it was under 5mph that he hit me. Damage Report. I did not fall off the bike, but the plate braket snapped in half, and took the fender and snaped its mounting points at the rear sub frame(although it stayed in place) the rear sub frame has one small chip out of it where maybe the rear fender pinched it while it snaped. But all the sub frame mounts look un stressed. It did not even break the taillight or plate light lense some how. I think his bumper rode up the the tire slightly and forced the fender up and thats how it broke. So the whole thing sux, Its not even 2 months old yet, I only got 2600 miles and I now have a headache to deal with. So here a question do you think I should have it fixed by a dealer ship or if the insuance agent cuts me a check should I just fix it might self. I dont have a problem working on it, I was gonna do different exhuast and race ecu and KN all this winter anyways. And I wanted a fender elminator kit so now that mine is busted why not. But their is now a possability of maybe the swing arm got bent, But I seriously doubt it as it was a very light hit. If I do bring it to the dealership will they use different parts if I specify? like if I say I want a certian fender elimantor kit will they get that instead of the factory fender or is more of a dealer by dealer ship luck kinda thing. Well Just thought I would share some frustration with everyone. I might have some pic later but I kinda dont feel like looking at it again at the moment | ||

I would have the dealership complete the repair. I know you hate to take it to them, but in any collision, there is the likelihood of hidden damage. If this hidden damage surfaces later and you have done the work, you are stuck. If the dealership has done the work, you can file additional claims on that damage and have the insurance company pay for it. It is very cheap insurance on the work being completed. | ||

Good points above. I had a parts manual i used to itemize all of the affected parts and compared them to the (Progressive ins.) adjusters parts/price manual.They additionally paid me(based on their estimate)labor hours@$55/hr. They covered forks/clamps front PM wheel etc.I did however pay for frame alignment at GMD Computrack Boston($750.).That alignment(or frame replacement) would've totalled my bike.And i didn't want a salvage title. | ||

If you are looking at parts swaps, one thing to consider is that dealerships have a profit margin built into the parts they sell. THIS IS A GOOD THING! We want dealers to make money on parts so that they stay in business and continue to supply parts. If you are wanting to replace parts with upgrade kits, I don't think the dealer would have a problem if they are Buell parts. If they are aftermarket, you will want to pull them out of the quote from the dealership and supply them your self. Some insurance companies will cut you a check for the difference. Others will not. You might have to work out a deal with the dealership that they cut you a check for those parts. Good Luck. | ||

That is why lane splitting should be legal everwhere. You can pull beside the front car at a light or stopsign, rather than waiting to get smashed between two cars. | ||

Sorry this happened to you. I agree that all states should allow bikes to "filter down to the front" at stop lights. Too many riders are hit from behind while stopped at lights or stop signs. The other thing is once again the closer you are to your destination or departure point the more your guard is down. That is a real danger zone. Complacency KILLS! If you find yourself cruising on "autopilot" it should set off alarm bells in your head. It can be too easy to be thinking about work, what's for dinner, What's on TV etc.. That's when the cages move in for the kill, they sense weakness and cull the herd  | ||

Hey I am thinking of bringing the bike to Paramount HD in Framingham, MA any other new englanders have a good experinces with them?? My Ins Adjuster called me yesterday and told me that they do not have Buells in their system to price out parts so I have to bring it to a dealership to have them do it, and I figure I will just leave it their and they can do all the work too. | ||

Take it to the dealer to inspect and write up the parts and labor estimate. Then take it home and have the insurance company cut the check to you. Call Daves at Appleton order the parts you want (at a discount), install yourself and use the extra $ not paid in labor and retail on parts to order your fender eliminator kit. | ||

I also feel your pain! I had significantly more damage done because I fell off the bike. Stupid thing's been outta' commission for 5 weeks now!  Not to mention, hauling it off to Stone Mountain is a 4 hour round trip for me. Talk about a hassle! Wish they'd get the lead out... takes too long to get the parts in, and then they have to re-schedule the repairs because of all the other bikes that arrive in the meantime. My warm weather's wastin' away, people!!! ~SM | ||

punkid8888 I know what your talking about I was just leaving work and some guy wasnt watching were he was going and clipped my front end when pulling out in front of me. my bike only has 3000 miles on it and I was 1 block from work. Id recomend letting the dealer take care of every thing unless your real confident because Im going about it the take the money and do it your self route and Im finding more damage than was in the origonal estimate. any way get your bike fixed and get back out there, glad to hear your ok | ||

You don't need a law to offer yourself the same protection. When I pull up at a stop, I ALWAYS pull to the side of the lane (closest to the white line). Then I keep a very close eye on the traffic behind me. If I see a car pulling up too fast, I just slide up the white line next to the car in front of me. IF I'm first in line, I stop well short of the intersection so I have room to pull up/over if someone doesn't see me. | ||

Punkid....... save yourself the hassle and fix it yourself. I wrecked my bike last year and fixed it myself. I had enough money left over to (that I saved by fixing myself) pay for most of my mods. These bikes are REALLY easy to work on. Let me know if you need help. I had my bike down to just the motor and frame. |
