Diablobrian-hahahahahahah , i was not really looking for a hard tail conversion or the inconvienent bump start conversion . just trying to get some ideas and so far the best two are to 1- loose weight myself so the bike doesnt need to carry more. 2- if i really need to do something to the bike, I will just start removing parts like the heavy chunk of metal called the engine . seriously though thanks for the perspective . im going to weigh the pieces that i remove to get an idea how much weight you can really just take off . also has anyone replaced the stock guage cluster with something lighter? |

Leather weighs a ton, ya know. Take Buell's old ad slogan literally and "RIDE NAKED!" |

Sub65Chris, Some of the common things are of course the rear foot pegs and mounts, the belt guards ,Get rid of the stock muffler old heavy pig, Cut the outer air box cover and front pulley cover out and install some light weight mesh, inner air box cover just leave the top to hold down air filter, Rider foot rest cut out the small holes, rider foot peg brackets drill some large 3/4 inch holes extra weight there not really needed, and of course rear plate mount(install plate under tail) and all them reflectors....,lollipop mirrors, lower chin fairing on muffler... and of course watch them Doughnuts... Oh and IF ya want more torque & don`t mind losing some top end change over to the xb9 front engine sprocket &chain will lose some weight here as well and rotating weight or is that reciprocating weight at that is always good to lose... Oh I see you have a xb9 anyways... (Message edited by Hogs on October 05, 2006) (Message edited by Hogs on October 05, 2006) (Message edited by Hogs on October 05, 2006) |

I was just having a little fun with the idea(s). The lightning is pretty stripped down is stock configuration and most of the really good ideas had already been covered so...of course I decided to go to the other extreme. Someone had to do it |

BTW if you remove the gage cluster it is actually pretty darn light. The stepper motors are far lighter than the old mechanical ones, but I'm sure straight LCD gages would be a little lighter. Just be sure you don't go too small. Crashing because you are trying to check a tiny speedo would suck! |

indeed it would suck to crash because of the small reed-outs. Its all in good fun , i dont offend easily and rather appriciate the sense of humor around this site . |

I'm confused, got to the part about helium in the tires, isn't that for improved or easier wheeling? |

isn't that for improved or easier wheeling? Only if you have it in the front tire. Use in rear tire is for stoppies. Both tires for "Race Use Only" |

How about drilling holes in the seat pan and cutting out the passenger part of the foam and shave down rider foam. Get rid of the hooks on the seat too. Fill frame 1/2 full. Drill holes in the subframe rails from the passenger section back. Drill out the bolt centers. Titanium springs. Cut the wire connectors off and solder your wires on. Get rid of one headlight and turn signals. Try not to use wheel weights. Change brake master cylinder to one with plastic reservoir. Drill holes in brackets. Lighten up front crank sprocket, it will rev quicker too. Convert to dry clutch and lighten up the primary cover. I'd love to see a belt drive primary. Don't wear anything under your leathers. Carry only paper money and license, donate change. Pick your nose and take a big sh:t. |

1- loose weight myself so the bike doesnt need to carry more. This would be cheaper... free even. |

Well you could stop going to Starbucks for your Venti Mocha - that will save you about 500 calories a day and about 20 bucks a week. At the end of the year you will be a lean beast with over 1G to blow on a CF Drummer and some other ultra light goodies. |
