I just put the race kit muffler on my '06 and it looks like it manufactured out of spec. no matter how we tightened it down the exhaust outlet only had about 1/16 of an inch between it and the pulley. On a couple of rides everything seems fine, but there is a very slight mark from the pully contacting the can. Any suggestions, or should I not worry about it? Thanks, --Sean |

Sounds like you're putting an 03 Race kit on an 06 bike. The 03s had a different idle pulley than the newer bikes, because of the belt and pulleys got upgraded. I've seen this before, and other than a little ding on the pipe where it hit, all is good. |

Thanks Glitch. I bought it from one of the BadWeb vendors and it was his last one left, I didn't think to ask about the pipe part number because the ECM and filter are correct for my bike. Oh well, if it is no big deal I won't worry about it. --Sean |

I think I'd take a grinder to the pipe before it damages your pulley. If you scrape the pipe going over a bump it can move slightly and make the problem worse. I don't think anyone would notice if you trimmed a little material away. |

You may be able to take a 1" socket and a hammer and massage it a little in that location where its seems tight. This will give you a very gentle round smooth dent in the can that will not be very noticable yet give you the clearance needed. This is very common in aftermarket headers on some cars. |

A grinder? The pipe isn't that thick. You'll grind a hole right through it. |

It's the outlet I'm referring to, not the body of the pipe. If it's the can, I'd dent it. The outlet, I'd grind it. |

By the time you notice it it's too late. It's already got a little dent, and no more modding is needed. Kind of the self modding mod. |
