basically my bike was doing fine untill 2 weeks ago when my guages went dead and the check engine light came on . finished the ride home and took the bike to the dealer about an hour away. the said the voltage regulator was bad so they replaced it . ( no charge , warrenty) . rode the bike home a week later and it was fine for about 120 miles then same thing again . it has a new battery and now a new voltage regulator . i think along with a few others here it is most likely the stator . IM NOT COMPLAINING! i just have to tell my fellow buellists what is going on with my baby . I love her and just want to ride , its not her problem shes just a little sick .

Have you checked it yourself to determine if it is indeed the stator?

If you've got a voltmeter and some time, it's not too difficult.

Sounds like you've got an intermittent short. Voltmeters are as easy to use as water is to drink. Cheap, too.

Get yourself a service manual and take the time to root out the problem yourself. You'll be round and round going to a dealer with an electrical problem. It's the rare technician who will spend the time to actually find the gremlin for you.

can I just add that I am having an unusual problem. have buzzed out the charging circuit as outlined in the Service Manual. Stator and VR appear to be ok. BUT the battery is not re-charging BUT the bike is also not running off the battery. The battery is starting the bike and that is it. I get about 6 starts and then .. DEAD battery .. the battery is less then a month old and it is a Harley unit, and the VR is only about 1 week old as well ... I am SURE that I am missing something REALLY basic ... please .. .help me .....
