..... it's my helmet. I wish people would stop aiming for it! Had my 1st official wreck this past Saturday in Cartersville, GA (same place I dropped my bike while parking... I swear, that place is jinxed!). I was headed south on HWY 41, sitting in the turning lane waiting to make a right on to Main Street. It happens to be the busiest intersection in town. The truck in front of me eased up, looked to make sure nothing was coming across, and made the turn. I eased up to take his place, turned to look for oncoming cars, and WHAM! a green Honda Civic rams me in the ass. I had a good grip on the bars, so it didn't get away from me, but there was absolutely no keeping it upright. I tottered off the right hand side as Cap'n Scurvy went down, and the Civic's bumper proceeded to mount the rear wheel and hang on my swingarm slider. I managed to come away with very little pain. My left calf is sore and bound to be bruised from the footpeg slamming against it, but the blood hasn't surfaced yet... gonna be ugly when it does. Few scratches there too. My neck's sore from looking over my shoulder when I took the hit... overextended just a bit, but not enough to be whiplash, I don't think. I'm going to a chiropractor this afternoon to get it checked out. The bike's scuffed from head to toe. The plate bracket is totally mangled, the tire cut, and the wheel got some seriously nasty gouges from getting run over. The right hand guard (which had been installed for a whopping 2 days) is ruined, the hand brake scuffed, and the throttle chipped. Both front and rear sliders are roughed up, along with the right frame puck, and the exhaust manifold is half collapsed and ground halfway through. Also a small bit of scuffing on the foot brake. Mostly cosmetic, but still a pretty penny to replace it all. I was able to ride it home, and couldn't tell anything was wrong with the handling. I have to say, the sliders and pucks really did their job. There's not a single scratch I can find on the body pieces or the frame. A big thanks to Dark Horse Moto for some kick-ass products! I've just finished filing the claim with the driver's insurance company... should have an adjuster contact me tomorrow. Hopefully we can get things rolling quickly. I'm gonna' have to make the trek BACK down to Stone Mountain (didn't I just pick it up???) and let them go over everything, make sure I didn't miss something important. I don't trust the yahoos around here to even know what to look for. Smokescreen, I'll be seeing you shortly, I guess! ~SM | ||

Damn.. Glad you are ok!! I have seen some pictures of the aftermath of rear-enders, and they can be brutal. Hopefully the insurance co. will do you right as well. Did the unattentive motorist get cited? | ||

Yeah, he got a ticket... heard the officer talking about a court date. The guy that hit me was a 70 y.o. handicapped guy. I couldn't be mad at him about it... I've hit someone the exact same way, so I know how easy it is to make that mistake. Had I been in a car, I doubt I'd even have to replace the bumper, but the bike just doesn't offer any kind of resistance. He was very apologetic, so I made light of it. I actually hope his premiums don't go up much. The worst part was standing around for 30 minutes in the heat, wearing black, waiting for the officers to finish the paperwork. I lost 5 pounds in sweat!  ~SM | ||

LOL! 'Cuz that's the only color mesh overpants seem to come in! I always wear full gear no matter what. My T-shirt just happened to be black by chance (I DID take off my jacket, which is black and red). I wasn't gonna' strip off EVERYTHING right there on the side of the road in the middle of town! I never even broke a sweat until I got into Cartersville... all that pavement was really soaking up the sun. ~SM | ||

Good to hear you wear full gear... sorry to hear about the unfortunate circumstances. Hope insurance cleans up quick, which company are you dealing with? | ||

Yeah, full gear is a PITA, but as the saying goes, I'd rather be sweaty than bloody. People think I wear all that stuff to look "cool" and play the bad biker, but it's just the opposite... I'm a weenie that's terrified of crashing!  The company is one I've never even heard of... "Farmer's Insurance Group". They seemed friendly enough over the phone, but we'll see how things stand once the repairs are done! ~SM | ||

Farmers Insurance is a very decent company to work with. Southeby's is one of the worst to deal with. For future reference, try not to get whacked by a rich broad with Southeby's Insurance. |
