I just got a firebolt XB12R and was wondering what the detachable saddle bags are like. do the bags come off easy? Whats left on the bike when the bags are off? |

I don't have any pics yet. It's the 06 colors. They don't have it this year. If you go on Ebay and pull up the bike, it's the one thats mostly black with the yellow wheels. |

Quick description: The bags include a bracket that bolts under the tail of the bike. The purpose is to put two "fins" (one on each side), directly under the edge of the tail (you'll understand why later). The bags themselves are held on with two straps. Mounting: the bags have a little "pocket" on the outside of the bags (on the inside side). You slide this "pocket" over the bracket fin. You then take the passenger seat off and put the two straps across the area where the passenger seat goes. Once snug, you can put the seat back on. Removal: pop off the seat, undo the two straps, then slide off. Very quick, very easy, but only if you have the key to remove the rear seat, so they're pretty secure. The only noticible thing remaining is the "fin" of the bracket...look at this pic I have on Odie's site - if you look at the tail you'll see it:

The only problem with the Cortech Sport bags is that they left rubber on my seat supports and they rubbed the finish off the rear peg supports. They hold a lot and seem durable and are easy to attach/detach. |

}you don't want the buell bags, pure junk! Actually, I find the Buell bags are great. They are not huge, but they are well made, well integrated with the bike and are securely attached. The bracket comes off with two fasteners, so that is no big deal. I have them, the Tail Bag and the Tank Bag. Quality stuff. |

The Buell saddlebags rock! They are very easily detached and hold up great at high speeds/long distance even when empty. They are not huge, but them and a back pack will get you and your stuff from A to B just fine. |

I also have the Buell saddlebags and tail bag. I can't understand why anyone would call them "junk". On the contrary, they are well designed, well made, don't flap about and hold their shape even when empty. The only complaint I have is they are a bit too small. |

I too have the Buell saddlebags, trunk bag, tail bag and tank bag. They absolutely are NOT junk. While the saddlebags are somewhat small, it is my belief they were specifically designed that way to prevent overloading. They are durable and very secure while riding. The trunk back together with the saddlebags work well together (I like the fact that the trunk bag acts as a back rest on those long rides). I am able to pack enough gear to last me about 5 days while using the tank bag as well. |

Good info guys. I'd like to get the Buell saddle bags and trunk bag. Would that be enough for a 2-3 day trip if I pack light, just a couple changes of clothes and some toiletries? Any better pics of the bags and how they mount? --Sean |

I had a set, the zipper broke off on the saddlebag after about a month's use. They don't hold much at all, If I am going to put saddle bags on the bike i would like them to hold something. MY Cortech seat bag holds way more than both buell saddle bags, but if that is all you are looking for then GREAT! I guess it depends on what you want really. I was not impressed with them buell bags, i had them all saddle, seat, and tank.the tank was the best of them three. i sold all of them. maybe i have higher standards for this stuff for what i do. It is all opinion and depends on what you want it for. they are small for sure. GOOD LUCK! |

I don't know how they work on the R but I'm happy with them on my S. They're not big, but hold what I need to carry everyday. I have the trunk bag that hooks on easily if I need more space. See the picture in my profile |

I just ordered the bags from Buell Parts. $235 with no shipping cost, seems like a deal. I just need something for n occasional over night trip. I have yet to see an XB12R with these bags. |
