Hey, I just got a pesasus timing cover and derby cover for my '02 X1W. When I removed the stock timing cover (rivits) there is no real way for this to mount. How is this supposed to mount? The rivit holes are not threaded and all I got was the cover. Any advice or suggestions are much appreciated. Andrew |

you need a rivet gun and some stainless steel rivets. Did the timing cover come with machine screws or something? |

I have a rivit gun and SS rivits, but I think it came with machine screws from the factory and maybe a modified undercover. I am going to check with the local HD shop for the mounting of pre- '04 Sportster timing covers. |

Wardan: The kit comes with 2 washers (p/n 6335), 2 rivets (8501), 2 timer cover screws (94555-97), and 2 self tapping 10-32 screws. They want you to rivet the inner cover to the sensor plate screws. I didn't do that and just used the phillips head screws that already held the cover in place. Then you need to tap the remaining two holes in the inner cover with a 10-32 thread. The 94555-97 screws then hold the Pegasus cover in place. Mark |

There are two covers, an inner and an outer. You're supposed to rivet the inner to the timer plate studs. Instead of doing that, I used the original screws. This way you can easily access your timing plate. Then you'll need to thread the 3- and 9-o'clock old rivet holes with either a tap or a self-tapping screw so you can attach the outer timing cover to the inner with hex key buttonhead screws. You can also use a spare screw with the same thread pitch to tap. You're not supposed to mount the Pegasus clutch cover. Those are supposed to be sent COD to Hippyjoe for inspection and proper disposal. |

Well, I went to the local HD store today. No Buell carried- hasn't for a few years. Walk to the parts counter- ask Sunday staff for assistance on parts (Thanks Mark for the part numbers)- The asshat behind the counter clicked the keys on the computer and said "Part 6355? Nope. Part 8501? Nope. Part 94555-97? Nope. Part 10-35? Nope." I told him that it is not part 10-32 but rather a 10-32 self tapping screw. "Hmmm. You're mistaken sir, according to the computer a 10-32 is not a screw." I explained that it is - a number 10 size screw and a 32 count thread. Again he typed it into the computer - the numbers 10-32. "No sir, it's not a screw." Fug it! I thought... Seeing the frustration on my face at his incompetence, he tried again "What are you trying to do?" I started "I have a 2002 X1W-" he interrupted "A what?" I said "A Buell-" He interrupted again "Oh we don't do Buells." I tried to explain that my engine was essentially the same as the previous generation Sportster engine - he didn't know what the fug I was talking about. So I smiled and thanked him for his time and left. |

I've only met a few decent parts people at dealers. Most of them are just going through the motions. The stories I could tell... |

For generic hardware I go to hardware stores. It's kind of a quest to find the best-equipped hardware stores at home and on the road... If you've got a bolt shop near you, you're really stylin'.... For Harley #s, I have the best results with a parts catalog and telephone. If my local dealer can't track down a number I give 'em, I call the dealer in the next town. Between the two I can usually figure it out on any given day. If all else fails I email DaveS or Al Lighton with the#. Anyway good luck finding the hardware for your Peg cover... they are "obsolete" and that's about the best Harley will say. If you can't find the screws, give a shout and I'll try to track down some at my local h/w store. It's hard to find hardware as nice as what Buell provided in the kits, that's one reason the kits go for 60+ these days.... |

32-50480 is the Inner Timer Cover this attaches to the gear case by 2 threaded studs the inner cover is held by 2 screws ( not rivited ) the Original trim cover rivits to that, as suggested you may want to "tap" the rivit holes and attach the trim cover with screws there are 3 different covers listed for the X1 by year mode |
