1. Every now and again I will try to start her and get a clicking. If i roll her forward a foot or so while pushing she will start no prob. This does not happen ever time I start her, weather it be hot or cold. 2. After having the bike started if I let her sit idle she will slowly drop in RPMs and eventually shut off this process happens in about 10 secs. If I give the throttle a twist it will start the dropping slowly process over, after being on the road for a minute or 2 this problem is gone. This does not happen ever time I start her, weather it be hot or cold. 3. I'll lose power from the bike. Bear with me this one is hard to explain. I could have been out riding for 5 mins or 5 hours and this could appear at anytime. I will be accelerating in any gear and as i hit the 3500 to 5000 range in my RPMs she won't give any more power. Then without notice she will get all her power back and launch me quite similar to popping the clutch. This problem is very sparatic. Once problem 3 started I took the bike in for a look. It acted up the entire ride to the dealer. Once their I explained the problem they all thought i was crazy, 2 techs and the owner rode the bike that day. It didn't act up for them once. I rode home and she was fine, I rode her for the next 3 weeks or so and everything was fine. I dropped the bike off for a 10k check and once I picked her up she started acting up after about 30 miles of riding with 1 stop for gas. I then stopped a a different dealer explained the problem and made an appt for sept 12. Rode her to work and she didn't act up once. The bike was good for about a week now she is acting up again. *Recent work includes a replaced O2 sensor and temp sensor(Mid-June) *Battery Load tested twice(once in Mid-June once the problems started and once in early July) both tests showed no problems *10k Check 3 weeks ago. I'm lost, the 1 dealer did not believe me, and I'd really like to not have to keep that sept 12 appt if i can track this down myself so please BadWebers HELP! |

Did the problems occur anywhere around washing the bike or riding in the rain? What I'm getting at is it sounds like a short. Did the techs wash it before giving it back? check for a loose or rubbing wire... |

At this point I hadn't washed the bike in almost a month, and i only washed it then b/c that was the last time i was out in the rain(damn water spots) The techs did wash it before i got it back, but it was also sitting at the dealership for a week after it was washed.} |

Other than the starting problem, I wonder if the fuel you're using could be the problem? Dirty?Water? |

Maybe have the coil checked, although if the starting problem is related to the running problem it may be a short somewhere. It definitely sounds electrical to me. I'd look very carefully at the wire harness up by the head tube in particular. I think that when you roll the bike you turn the handlebars. Ditto in the other instances to a smaller degree, or the bike's own vibrations could also cause problems with either grounded, or broken (inside the insulation?) wire(s). |

10-4 on checking grounds and both battery terminals! also if clicking is arcing then look at secondary ignition wires, spark plug cables. I replaced my coil and there were arc marks coming off #1. I lost power and missed on wet and/or humid days. Hasn't rained since. |

It sounds like a ground to me too. I've had similar symtoms on bikes and a race car or two. I read on here some time back the quote "90% of all fuel problems are electrical." |

If you didn't have the starting problem, I would say check the vacuum cap on the side of the throttle body intake. These tend to dry out and cause the running problems that you described. But throw in the starting problem and I agree with everyone else's opinion, electrical. If anyone takes their lower airbox mounting plate off, go ahead and check your vacuum cap also. Located on the right hand side of the TB. I have fixed mine, and another Carolina Corner Carvers member had a bad ride home from the mountains till we stopped and figured it out. |

#1 Sounds like a low battery and a cold engine. Do you have a battery tender? #2 My bike does this when it is cold. Needs nursing until warm to hold an idle. I don't consider it a problem on my bike. #3 Weird! Aside from the other ideas in this thread, does this occur when fuel is low? My bike has occasionally acted strangely, but only when I'm down to the last couple litres of fuel. Klink |

How old is the battery? Battery tender? Battery is 1 year old, sits on a tender when Im not riding for a few days. If im out everyday then no tender #1 Sounds like a low battery and a cold engine. Do you have a battery tender? #2 My bike does this when it is cold. Needs nursing until warm to hold an idle. I don't consider it a problem on my bike. Battery is fine. #2 I consider a problem b/c i can now recreate the problem. I can recreate problems 1 and 2 now with the turning of my bars to different sides and different angles. #3 i can't recreate. I will check all the wire upfront when i get home tonight.
