What is the difference and which does the most for the money?? I want to reset TPS and Static timing. Are all the bugs fixed in the software?? Cost? |

VDST is the one you want although I don't think it is set up for timing yet - a future upgrade. you can read all the engine parameters with it and trouble codes.. cost is @195 from DAVEs Direct Link id for tuning of the Fuel Injection system and you need a Dyno for that.. DL does have a TPS reset function tho MB |

Thanks, but I remember reading way back when about the timing function being just around the corner. |

Years ago I would check the static timing on my old Hondas, that had points ignition, with a hand held turn signal. I'd hook it to the points and when the light would go off I knew the points had opened. |

You can substitute Digital Technician going to 5 volts with the fuel pump cycling. VDSTS could monitor fuel pump voltage or CPS voltage but the sound of the fuel pump happens precisely at the same time that the CPS goes to 5 volts. The good thing is that the fuel pump prompt is free! |

Davo, I'm not understanding what you wrote. Also, what is CPS voltage?? |

CPS = Crankshaft Position Sensor (the hall-effect sensor that lives where the points would be) |

Davo, So when the timing mark touches dead center the fuel pump should begin cycling at precisely the same time. If it cycles before or after the mark then timing isn't dead on. So how do I reset the TPS without buying expensive software?? Can it somehow be accomplished with a precision digital multimeter?? |

Be careful with the fuel pump adjusting method. The pump comes on when the voltage switches from low to 5 for the front cylinder combustion TDC (the point You want to adjust). Still it comes on when the voltage drops from 5 to low, too, for the rear cylinder. If You use that point Your adjustment will be off for some degrees. So You either have to check that the voltage switches from low to 5 or You have to check that both valves in the front cylinder are closed with the piston near TDC (maybe by looking through the spark hole) to be sure Your adjustment is correct. Electraglider 1997, The CPS voltage can be read at at the ECM with a DVOM (digital volt/ohm meter)across pin 3 (GN/W wire)(CPS) on the gray ECM connector and ground. When the DVOM goes to 5 volts it is an indicator that one of the six vanes on the CPS trigger rotor have crossed the CPS. Two of the six are #1 and #2 firing prompts. The fuel pump cycles at each of these vanes as well. I have watched the DVOM while listening for the fuel pump and it is instantaneous. So the DVOM is not even needed if you can hear the fuel pump. As for TPS, I do not have a procedure for that other than software. The CPS solution is analog and the TPS requires digital data to recalibrate the ECM as to where the TPS is positioned during the reset process. |

Electraglider: The TPS is a potentiometer and can be measured by a DVM but to zero it requires a computer. This is because when the throttle is closed, the potentiometer is not all the way over to 0 Ohms. |

Electraglider 1997, Your welcome and if you are ever in Virginia stop by for a TPS reset. It takes less than 5 minutes. |

Davo, thanks, but that's a long ride for the reset. Looks like I'll be giving Daves that call. |

Daves sounds like the name of a good man to bring it to. I use Davo because there are thousands of Daves around here! |
