Oneway,
You might want to keep an eye on this:
http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/217439.html?1154971819
But it wd. have no bearing on your speedo, But hard downshifting is what happened in a flash on the wifes xb12scg,
She also had to get a new primary under warranty , So looks like she is atleast the second one this has happened to or more, and the dealer is the only one that ever touched her bike so I rest my case.
May be just a clutch adjustment in your case. Speedo may be the speed sensor which is common on the 9`s or some other plm. there.. Hope this helps Buddy...

This probably has no bearing on the problem, but I had some trouble this summer during downshifts--turned out to be the shift linkage had come loose, and the end of the shift lever was contacting the primary case when I tried to downshift. My fault, for not tightening the linkage locknuts sufficiently after adjustment...

I just had a similar problem, except it was on the upshift. I thought it was the shifter fork also, but it the clutch was in need of adjustment. After the clutch adjustment, I have ridden 1000 miles with no problems.
