Was there a shorter tail ever put on an S1 solo? I have a twin tail on mine and I've been trying to convert it to a solo. I bought a tail plastic on ebay, but the plastic ends about an inch and a half past the seat. Most of the ones I have seen have about five or six inches. I hope the one I bought hasnt' been modified. It's been painted flat black over the original paint, so I can't tell. If they did make it like that at the factory, what year did they do that, because the taillight bracket I bought from an S1W doesn't fit. Mike |

I have a twin tail on mine and I've been trying to convert it to a solo. I can't answer your question, but... I'd guess you could probably find someone on the board who'd like to trade you. Lots of people seem to want the twin tail. I'd be into it if I had an S1. |

Actually, I want to keep both. It isn't very hard at all to switch them out. I'm going to keep the twin tail for riding with my girl, at least until I finish restoring my shovelhead. Mike |

Phish, The single tail on my bike is from a 97 S1 and it's about 3" out from the back of the seat. I believe the (96-98) S1's all used the same tail, not sure if the same was used on the S1W, but probably... -Mike |

same tail on all s1/s1w. difference is the turn signal bracket under the tail for twintail and plastic itself. i have a twintail setup off another bike that i have never installed. rarely ride double and only once with the s1 in 8 years. good luck, tim |

Right, the diff between the single tail and the twin is the seat. The fibrglas section is basically the same. Bret |

okay enough with the speculation... i just returned from my garage where i positioned a 97 S1 tailsection and a 98 S1 Twintail tailsection "side by each". the twin tail plastic is 8" longer than the regular tailsection, which makes sense as there is an 8" long metal subframe included to mount the twintail. also the twintail seat is substantially longer, it leaves about an inch to the rear edge. the standard S1 leaves about 3". |

Sorry about starting a thread and disappearing. I've been house sitting. The tail that I bought had been modified. It has a couple inches cut off the back. Whoever did it, did a good job, so I thought maybe it came stock that way. I put it on the bike and it stops right before the end of the subframe. I still had the tail light bracket from the twin tail on, so I'm going to see what it looks like without it. I was thinking about putting one of those LED tail lights with integrated turn signals under the end of the sub frame. It will be a really short tail, but as long as the subframe sticking out doesn't look too bad it should still look pretty sweet. Mike |
