OK - confession - I never liked the square headlight. Becaue I can work fiberglass and plastics, I'm going to swap out to a round headlight for a "better" or more classic look (at least in my eyes) but don't want to do more surgery than I need to. Anybody know if ANY round headlight will do a plug-in swap without my having to cut wires? I'd prefer only modifying the fairing and light support brackets and not snipping wires if I don't have to . |

My first time around putting a round light on the S3 wiring, I just cut and make a new plug. The stock S1/X1/M2 headlight "harness" is a direct plug into the S3 wiring harness. That was what I did when I did the complete rebuild of my S1W (using an S3T harness for the rest of the wiring). |

Slaughter I'm with you on the square light deal. I would like to get the projector lights from a XB and install them like a 999R one above the other. |

Somewhere I saw a dual-lamp S3 fairing where the guy mounted XB lights in the fairing. Didn't quite look right. I am just going to try making up a fairing mod for a round light. It's a winter project kinda thing. I just wonder if they had a huge box of square lights that nobody wanted and designed around them. Not my style and in a few months, I'll probably do something about it. Right now, the weather is too freaking good to take the bike down for a couple weeks of non-riding! |

Even though this picture is taken at a dealership, here is a S3 that was a factory bike with the S1 headlight and flyscreen. I never even thought if it was as simple as plugging in a different headlight, but apperently so...

I have a local M2 that I'll go have a look into. I've got a few months before I take the bike out of service for a couple weeks to do the mods. All I want is a round headlight in my stock fairing... maybe a classic cafe-racer type fairing. But that square headlight has gotta go. |

I agree with you, Slaughter. The square headlight has always been the one thing that seems to date the S3 (looks so Miami Vice or something). Be sure to post up pics of your changes...I for one would be interested in seeing them. Jason |
