My bike has been kicking arse and taking names when it comes to mileage. I filled up on Monday morning and calculated my mpg from my slip. I got 53 mpg and some points. That was mostly highway, but some traffic and around town riding. Not beating on it, but not babying it either. This morning I filled it back up. It took 1.876 gallons and the trip meter had 103.1 miles on it. That comes out to 54.96 mpg!!! That was from all highway averaging 80 mph. Not too shabby if you ask me! I'm just stunned, 54.96 mpg on a XB12Scg with a Drummer SS, Race ECM and Desnorkled. Sure beats the 18 mpg my car gets! | ||

Mileage was the reason I bought my Blast way back in the day (for me). I was dragged to a local HD dealership by my roommate at the time, and saw 69 City/72 Highway staring up at me and thought, "Sign me up!" Cruising around, my 2003 XB9R still gets low 50s, as does the Blast. When I first picked it up and was a nervous little biker babying it, that little Blast got over EIGHTY miles per gallon. O_O Wish I could still coax that out of it, though I like the mods done to it better than the extra gas mileage.  Truck gets ~14 city...oy...it's paid off pretty soon and while I'm not getting rid of it, I will be adding a smaller car to the collection to use as a daily driver when the bikes can't come out. | ||

I get between 65 and 74 mpg all the time riding in the mountains of colorado. (2004 xb12s)Mostly two lane roads, cruising anywhere between 40 and 70 miles per hours. | ||

The Uly gets 50+ alot. My 250 Ninja commuter usually gets in the 70's. It's a great work beater. | ||

My XB12Ss is still bone stock as far as intake, engine and exhaust is concerned. Despite the way I beat on it, it still returns mileage in the high forties or low fifties; last time I had 176 miles on the tank and it took 3.5 gallons to fill. I've been getting 54mpg out of my 04 XB12S with the Pro Race kit, desnorkeled. I've been putting Aviation Fuel in the bike and haven't checked the mileage yet but holy *!(< she loves that stuff! Runs real smooth and it leaves a little white residue on the pipe exits. Really smoothed her out and I can feel it in the BHP (butt horse power) ha,ha. The Jeep just sits in the driveway and collects dust. 14mpg is not cool when I can get 54! | ||

Be careful, that aviation fuel might burn up your O2 sensors. Seen it happen on a jap bike. | ||

The white residue is lead. Your o2 sensor will not take too much of it before it quits working. Our o2 sensors are narrow band and do not heat themselves up. They are more prone to lead "plating" than the broad band sensors because of this. I've seen it happen to bikes at the track with race fuel. | ||

There is a black rubber 'snorkel' inside the hole in the left frame spar that leads to the airbox. Removing it allows the airbox to suck in more air and is generally one of the first things people do to their XBs. | ||

the snorkel is only found on bikes with the frame pass-through. | ||

removing the snorkal was the best mod i ever did....it allows me to use it as a cup holder to carry my coffee in the morning. them dunkin' cups fit in there perfectly!  | ||

My friend puts it in his 2004 Firebolt and has never had an issue and he's been doing it since new. I've only put 1 tankfull in my 2004 lightning. Is it because the Octane level is too high? It seems to run a lot better with this fuel. Why would that be if it's bad for the bike? | ||

Lead is bad for the o2 sensor. The rason your bike is running well with it is not because of the octane. Octane is a rating of resistance to burning. Race and aviation fuels have some very volatile additives that can make more power. There can be down sides too though, not just because of legality, it can be very bad for the plastic and rubber parts in your fuel system, remember your fuel pump is immersed in the stuff, it can also go "flat" racers don't even leave this stuff in their fuel tanks overnight because of this. Just because some has done something and gotten away with it does not make it a good idea. Continue using this stuff at your own risk. If it does cause damage to your bike if the dealership notices the avgas, by smell, damage, or deposits left, you can forget your warranty. | ||

No the 06's and 07's do NOT have the snorkel thing...i check one day for hours..taking everything from the airbox all the way apart, and the left side scoop off. i was like what the heck...then someone said generously...06's don't have them...and i said....thanks for tellin me ahead of time | ||

Damn my bike only gets low fortys in the city... Don't sweat it, my XB12R is stock except for a K&N and I often get 39 or just under in the city. But then, I'm kind of a hooligan when I commute...  | ||

highway-56mpg Country roads -63mpg 03' XB9S w/ race kit. Thats pretty much what I got on my old blast, because to go anywhere on that thing, you have to wind it out in every gear, and your still waitin. | ||

thanks for your knowledge Diablobrian. I'm still learning about my bike. I guess I don't need AV gas in my bike since it's not an airplane but it does feel like flying sometimes when I'm on my bike! No more Airplane fuel. Learn something new everyday on Badweb! | ||

My best mileage on the Uly was 59mpg. I just topped 10,000 miles and it is getting better gas mileage these days. I topped 50mpg while I was on vacation and I hit triple digits speeds a couple of times on that tank and ran 70mph+ for about 100 miles. I was impressed that I got 204.8 miles on that tank and was not riding it conservatively. |
