If I were to drill holes in the inner airbox on an 04 XB12s would I have to recalibrate the ECM so my fuel wouldn't be running lean/rich?? |

No, it will eventually 'relearn' the proper mapping. There's a process for it, or at least a recommendation on how to ride to provide the ECM with good input to change the mixture, but I don't recall what it is off-hand. |

so after I tap the inside airbox with a bunch of holes I need to ride on the conservative side until it "relearns" the proper mapping? |

I believe the suggestion was along the lines of 'go ride at 4K RPMs for ~20minutes' or some such. I think something similar is recommended after a TPS reset. ...or you could just go ride the damned thing, it'll figure it out eventually. |

I believe you want to ride it at 3.5-4K steady speed for a good 10-20 minutes to help it learn. That is in the range that the ecm is running off of the O2 sensor, so that it gets all the input it can take. If you are riding above or below those rpm's it is running off of predesigned maps and won't really learn anything. At least that is my understanding. |

would you you have to remap the ecm if running an open air box? or will it still relearn it? |

do you have to "ride" it or can you just sit there for 10 min idling at 3.5 grand? cause i can't get any breaks with these stop light for ten min at 3.5 grand |

i would think letting it idle that long, that high is not a good idea. and it wouldnt be under a load so it would be a different reading anyways. |

Yes, it needs to be under load. Do you have any stretches of interstate near you? That's the best way to do it. Even, steady state throttle, under load, at 3.5k for 10 minutes or so. |
