I think someone mentioned trying them before. Are those the tires with all the rain grooves near the edges? Someone brought up an issue of sacrificing traction for the rain grooves so close to the edge. |

The tomahaws are colored "Stunter" tires. They are actually retreads! Not sure where they get the carcass from. I would not be caught dead on a set............ (Message edited by skyguy on July 17, 2006) |

Skyguy, I'm with ya. Those things might be the best value in motorcycledom but there isn't any way I'm riding around with the word "retread" bouncing in between my ears. NUTS |

There was a test on them in a recent mag. that they fared ok. I know that Koz on this board had bought a set and he waited and waited for them and when they came the orange that he ordered actually looked like crap. That was 2 years ago though. On the flip side though I know they are retreads but so are alot of semi tires and just about all aircraft tires that I'm aware of for what its worth. Its one of those things that has my curiosity but not enough to shell out the money to find out. |

I had some of those, absolute crap. They aren't recaps, they're remolds. The carcases come from worn out Pirellis, Dunlops, Bridgestone, whatever the used tyre guy brings them. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/4062/54633.html?1081903799 http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/101406.html There's others, including one where I say that I'm sorry I bought the rotten things. I tried to find it but the search engine must be low on oil this evening. I just wished I had listened when some kind soul tried to warn me off buying them. They don't even make good tree swings. They've been sponsoring a privateer racer in the AMA for several years now, but that's never amounted to much either. I wouldn't put much faith in them myself, not worth the risk. |

I wonder how many sets they mounted before they could find one that didn't take 15 wheel weights to balance? Bob (Message edited by nedwreck on July 17, 2006) |

I just picked up a project bike that came with Tomahawks on them. They are not black, but not grey either. They look faded. The bike isn't running so I haven't tried them out. And after reading these threads, I don't think I'm ever going to! |

Trac95 has a set on his ride and has done a few track days on them. What I got from him is that they did pretty well, he just got back from the Dragon and they didnt do too bad there either. He is using the older compund tire, which from the magazine article and Trac himself looses a little feel at max lean angle. The magazine test tested the newer compund and actually liked them. Not a pilot power or such but for the money and longevity of tire wear it doesnt seem too bad. |

If you want cheap tires then get a set of Shinko's. They can be had for around $150/set. And they work pretty good too. |

I have run one set of Tomahawks, and have a buddy on his 3rd set of them. He gets around 8k out of a set, and I got 7k. They are remanufactured from carcasses of major manufacturers tires. The process they use to make them is exactly the same as they use to remanufacture aircraft tires used on commercial airliners. Every tire is checked using xray shearography, to insure that the tire's layers are bonded correctly. Actually they are tested and checked better than the tires you buy from standard manufacturers. Never ran the colored tires, but the black ones are a good buy. They may not be race rubber, but I dont happen to need race rubber on my street bike. |

Yeah I've heard more good things out of them than bad, really. Got a buddy who rides an R1 and couldn't be happier for the price! Trust me, he's ran from more than one cop, so those things are getting abused with no complaints that I've heard. Good luck! |

I think they are a good tire. It depends on what you are looking for. If you are going to do track days and you spend most of the time on the edge, you may want to get better tires. having said that, they are great in the rain, you'll get lots of miles out of them and the price is great. If you have chicken strips buy them. They will be fine. If you don't, buy a stickier tire. I don't have any experience with the colored tires. I haven't tried the newer ones but the ones I used are fine. Don't pay attention to all the nay sayers. |

There are a few guys here around KC that run them and they swear by them, even on track days. But I wouldn't run a set just to save a few bucks. (Message edited by thansesxb9rs on July 18, 2006) |
