Went to Ireland for a day or seven. Bought me a Buell-tankbag, strapped it on and went on the road. After returning home took off the bag and noticed a large scratched circle just in the middle of the airboxcover. My Nikon had been there during the journey. seems like the two small soft bands along the sides off the bag are not enough for keeping the bag from scratching the cover. Went to the dealer and he replaced my cover for free under warrenty. Very nice, but he did not have a solution for how to prevent the bag from scratching again. Does anyone of you people have the same problem? And what did you do about it? Think I will try to glue some more soft material under the bag. So, be warned for scratching!!!!!! Sorry for the poor language, for I live in the Netherlands, Europe. |

I used mine for a 2K mile trip and only had a couple light scratches from the front buckles. Your dealer did you a huge favor. I have had great experience with my dealer here in California, but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have replaced it for free. |

That is unfortunately a fact of life when using a tank bag. There are ways to minimize scratches but not prevent them all together. I carry a micro fiber rag and wipe the tank and bottom of the tank bag each time before putting it on. There is a product I have seen and can't remember where, that is a thin plastic film that is designed just for such an application. I do remember it being more expensive than I thought it was worth. |

Some scratches are unavoidable, but I had a area covering the whole top of the airbox. It was completely scratched leaving a dull grey appearance. Had a Bmw tankbag on my old 1150GS and it never produced any scratches. I think when you offer one you should also test them. There should be a total foam pad underneath the complete surface of the bag. So I don't have to carry a towel with me every time I use it. Also one of the buckles was "crushed" when the bag was off and I turned the bike. It was broken between the tank and the steering head. Be sure the buckles are not facing forward when not in use with the bag! Also want to mention that I rode the bike with my girlfriend and a complete package (cases) and a dufflebag and it was a real pleasure! I like it much more than all my old Gs's! And indeed my dealer did a great job replacing the cover for free. |

Cover the top of the air box with a urethane film used for paint protection. Google paint protective film and you can find some sources. |
